Welcome to the memorial page for

Cheryl "Mammer" Jane Lackie

December 6, 1948 ~ July 1, 2016 (age 67) 67 Years Old

The strongest woman we have ever known Cheryl J. Lackie, better known in later years as Mammer, passed away early Friday morning, July 1, 2016 at her home in Sturgeon Bay, WI. It was a difficult path she walked but Cheryl showed great strength and a positive, loving attitude throughout. She was diagnosed nearly nine years ago with a rare liver disease. A few years after her lifesaving liver transplant in April 2010 she was diagnosed and received multiple surgeries for a separate form of cancer. Cheryl was re-diagnosed with cancer and the same rare liver disease in 2015.

She was born December 6, 1948 in Ontonagon, MI, the daughter of the late Gerhardt “Gay” and Mildred “Millie” (Rogers) Giesau. Following her graduation in 1967 from Ontonagon High School she attended Ferris State University in Big Rapids, MI. On October 3, 1970 Cheryl married Robert “Bob” D. Lackie in Ontonagon. Following their marriage, they lived in several states as Bob’s career progressed. This included California, then back to West Bend, WI, then transferred to York, PA, and back to Wisconsin.

In 1986 her family moved to Sturgeon Bay for Bob’s work. Cheryl raised her family along with working many years at Baylake Bank, Title and Abstract work at Pinkert Law Office.

Mammer loved unconditionally. Her greatest joy was being Bob’s wife, mom and Mammer to those she cared about most. Mammer loved to visit with all those she would come to meet, walking into a room of strangers, leaving as friends. The more people the better, family or not, was her motto. Her loss will leave an emptiness with all who knew her.

She enjoyed her U.P. roots growing up in Ontonagon, MI, it was her magnet, always pulling her back, in many ways she never left. Cheryl and Bob spent a lot of time biking, logging many miles together before her illness progressed. She also loved knitting, sewing, quilting alone and with friends.

Her family includes a loving and ever dedicated husband, Bob; three forever loved children, Brian (Donna) Lackie of Sturgeon Bay, Cynthia (Troy) Hasenjager of Sturgeon Bay, Amanda (Drew) Baird of New Canaan, CT; five grandchildren who were the absolute tiny loves and joy of her life, MaKenzye and Chase Hasenjager; Cole Lackie: Archer, Millicent Baird; brother, James (Marilyn) Giesau of Kingsford, MI; mother-in-law, Charlotte Lackie-Rock of Pequaming, MI.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Gay and Millie Giesau; several aunts, uncles, and cousins; and her father-in-law, Robert (Bob) Lackie.

A celebration of her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan St., in Sturgeon Bay. Everyone is invited to a reception at the home of Bob and Cheryl Lackie immediately following burial at Bayside Cemetery.

Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:45 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Gift of Life Transplant House, 705 2nd St. SW, Rochester, MN 55902 in memory of Cheryl Lackie.
