Marilyn Ann Cunningham

     Marilyn Ann Cunningham, 83, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully, January 1, 2017 in Wausau.

     She was born July 29, 1933 in Hammond, IN, the daughter of the late Ernest William and Marguerite Ann (Holtz) Lietzan. Marilyn was a graduate of Purdue University, majoring in Home Economics. She married Marshall Evans Cunningham on June 25, 1955, in Hammond, IN. As a military family, they resided in Washington, Connecticut, California, and Maryland before settling in Sturgeon Bay where Marshall was the Supervisor of the Shipbuilding for the Navy Office. He died suddenly at the age of 47, on October 12, 1977. They had four children.

     Marilyn was an active community volunteer with the Door County Hospital Auxiliary, Crossroads, a longtime YMCA water instructor, and a longtime member of Christ the King Episcopal Church. Some of her favorite activities included spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling, singing, playing bridge, gardening and cooking.

     Marilyn is survived by her four children, Lynn Cunningham of Cornwall, NY, Kay (Steve) Jensen of Sturgeon Bay, Meg (Joel) Wissmueller of Wausau, Tom (Lisa) Cunningham of Cave Creek, AZ; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Niki Rupiper of Coleman, WI; and her beloved dog, Coco.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Marguerite Lietzan; husband, Marshall Cunningham; granddaughter, Sarah Jensen; brother, Ernest W. Lietzan; and two sons-in-law, Bill Ray, and Herb Trubenbach.

     Special thanks to the staffs at Applegate Reflections and Pine Crest Village for the great care they provided.

     Memorials may be directed to the Boys & Girls Club of Door County.

     Marilyn's life will be honored with a memorial service held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Collins Learning Center at Crossroads at Big Creek in Sturgeon Bay.
