Ernestine Faye Perrin

May 1, 1917 ~ May 1, 2016 (age 99) 99 Years Old

Ernestine Faye Perrin, 99, of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully on her birthday, Sunday, May 1, 2016 at home with family at her side.

She was born on the family homestead in Comanche County, KS, the daughter of Ernest and Anna Hanna (Hucklebridge) Carthrae. Ernestine graduated from Wilmore High School in 1935 and went on study at Emporia Teachers College. She was a grade school teacher for five years at a country schoolhouse in southwestern Kansas, near Coldwater. Ernestine’s primary employment was as an executive secretary for Olive Ann Beech (Beech Aircraft Company) in Wichita for 20 years. She also worked in optometrists’ offices in Wichita in the 1970s.

She married Dwayne Wilson Perrin in Wichita in 1950, and they shared 30 years of marriage.

Ernestine was raised Methodist and was a leader within the local Bible Study Fellowship in Wichita. She moved to Wisconsin in 1986 and had been living in Door County the past 15 years, initially at Big Hill Regency House Apartments and more recently at her niece’s home. Ernestine had attended Hope Church in Sturgeon Bay.

She was a tenacious person who survived rattlesnakes, tornadoes, and even an assault. Ernestine was also a generous person who loved her family very much. She was a wonderful cook, and her homemade chicken and noodles was a family favorite. In her earlier years, Ernestine took great pride in selecting each chicken, preparing them for cooking, and serving in her various recipes for family to enjoy. She also enjoyed reading.  Fishing with her family was a favorite pastime as well.  Hosting huge family gatherings was a great joy to her also.

Ernestine is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Harvey) Stewart of Billings, MT; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Helen; nieces; nephews; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two stepchildren, Jack Perrin, Pat Eckstein; and three brothers, Victor, Stewart, and Jack Carthrae.

Ernestine will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery, Sturgeon Bay.

A private family celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

“A heartfelt thanks goes out to Ernestine’s niece, who was also her caregiver, for her tender, loving care.  We also owe the staff of Unity Hospice a debt of gratitude, especially the CAN, Wendy, who was instrumental in helping in so many ways.”
