     David Withers, 79, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully Monday morning, June 5, 2017 at his home with his family by his side after a short illness.

     He was born April 19, 1938 in Quincy, IL, the son of Harold and Naomi (Essig) Withers. Following his graduation from Quincy High School in 1956, David served his country in the United States Army and Army Reserves for over eight years. On September 28, 1957, he married JoAnne Walker in Quincy. They moved to Door County in 1970.

     David’s outgoing personality suited him well in his chosen professions of life insurance sales in Quincy and in his promotional products business in Door County, Pan Fish Sales.

     He attended Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. David’s passions in life were hunting and fishing which he enjoyed with his family as well as his friends. He also volunteered to mentor youth in local fishing and hunting programs. David shared his knowledge and love of the outdoors in his column for the Door County Advocate titled, Woods and Waters.

     He was a member of the Sturgeon Bay Optimist Club and Lions Club in Quincy, IL and served as a delegate to the Conservation Congress for many years.

     David will be dearly missed by his wife, JoAnne; his three children, John (Kathy) of Blue River, Bill (Celeste) of Iron River, Anne (John) Bauer of Suamico; five grandchildren, Joshua (Tina) Withers, Levi (Jessie) Withers, Billie Jo (special friend, Dave Salmeri) Withers, David Withers, and Johnny Bauer; three great-grandchildren, Amelia Withers, Ivan Withers, Leah Withers; two brothers, Philip (Hilda) Withers of Augusta, GA, Steve (Laura) Withers of Quincy, IL; and one sister, Marcia (Bob) Clift of Henry, IL.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister-in-law, Anne Withers.

     David’s military service will be honored will full military rites by the United States Army and VFW Post #3088 at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. A memorial service celebrating his life will follow at the church immediately after military honors, Pastor James Gomez officiating.

     Visitation for family and friends will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday June 17, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of military honors.
