Obituary

William R. Hunsader, 72 years, of Sturgeon Bay, was called home Saturday May 30, 2020 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay.

He was born March 5, 1948 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of the late Robert and Marie (Daubner) Hunsader. Bill graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1966 before entering the U.S. Air Force where he would give 24 years of his life for service to his country. That service would take him throughout the world where he specialized in logistics coordination. Tours of duty would take him to Vietnam, two gulf wars, Europe, and England before returning to the place he called home, Sturgeon Bay in 1992. Even after his honorable discharge, Bill stayed involved in veteran’s affairs, lending a hand, or giving a donation when needed in support of his fellow veterans. He worked at Midwest Wire for 20 years as a press operator, a job he loved.

Bill enjoyed all sports, competing, and watching. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and softball with friends, and his sons. Bill played in many Aloha softball tournaments and leagues at Westside Ballfield. For many years, Bill bowled in leagues at Worley’s, Cherry Lanes and Apple Valley Lanes. As the years wore down his physical ability, Bill who enjoyed the social atmosphere as much as competing, enjoyed attending the music and theatrical performances at the area’s many venues. His true musical love was classic country by Haggard, Cash, Twitty, Willy, Haggard and a song favorite was God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood.

Survivors include his two sons, Brian of Philadelphia, Brad of Sturgeon Bay; two grandchildren, Brynn and Elle Hunsader; five siblings, Barb Hanrahan, Bob (Nancy) Hunsader, Linda Mengert (John Neuville), Patti (Todd) Scherer all of Sturgeon Bay, and Paul (Patti) Hunsader of Colorado.

Preceding him in death was his parents; brother-in-law, Frank Hanrahan; and former wife, Mary Ann Hunsader.
