William "Bill" Barlas, 67, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away in the loving arms of his family on Friday, May 16, 2025 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.
Bill was born April 12, 1958 in Blue Island, IL, to Kosta and Joan (Seip) Barlas. He grew up in Flossmoor, IL and graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor High School with the class of 1976. Bill spent many hours at the ice rink and loved to play hockey.
After graduating from Illinois State University in Normal, IL, he started his career at the Chicago Board of Trade. He eventually moved to the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, where he was a broker in the S&P 500 Futures pit.
Bill was married to Ruth Ellen McCoy on September 8, 1990 at First United Methodist Church in Chicago, IL. They were partners and built a beautiful life together. In 2002, Bill and Ellen moved to Sturgeon Bay. They worked together for many years to operate businesses and raise their family. Bill's family was everything to him, and he and Ellen were devoted to each other, their children and grandchildren. Bill was a familiar part of the Sturgeon Bay Y's "Fit for Life" group and loved to run, exercise, and participate in races throughout the county. His favorite was the Fall 50.
Bill will be missed by his wife, Ellen, with whom he shared nearly 35 years of marriage; children, William (Heidi) Barlas of Kohler, WI, Anne (Taylor Henderson) Barlas of Sturgeon Bay, Mary (Sam Buhk) Barlas of Sheboygan, Joan Barlas, and Jacqueline Barlas, both of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Sophia, Greta, and William Barlas, and Charles Henderson; mother, Joan Barlas of Clearwater, FL; siblings, Diann Mulroy of Clearwater, FL and Peter Barlas of Brisbane, Australia; other relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; siblings, Michael Barlas and Georgia Barlas; and other relatives.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 110 N. 5th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Matthew Rappl as celebrant. Bill will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol.
Visitation for famiy and friends will be held at the church on Friday after 9:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m.
