Stephan James Morkin, 73, of Sturgeon Bay, originally of Milwaukee, passed peacefully Tuesday evening, December 19, 2023 surrounded by his loving family after a very brief illness.
Born November 11, 1950 to Killian Thomas Morkin and Diane Sue (Genrich) Morkin in Waukesha, Steph graduated from Whitnall High School as an accomplished student and skilled athlete in 1969.
Steph spent most of his adult life in Madison, graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Business Administration. Not one to sit behind a desk, Steph held various types of employment over the years, and his most colorful tales were of the times he spent driving for Badger Cab. He was very politically active, writing many editorials for the Isthmus Newspaper and creating t-shirts with pointed, political messages. Often described by those who knew him as “Too smart and too sensitive for this world”, Steph always believed there must be a better one. We hope with all our hearts that he has found it.
Steph was beloved by so many and leaves behind his adoring sisters, Kaleen (Bill Radtke) Morkin and Claire Morkin; his loving nieces, Kasey Radtke and Gabby Radtke and Josie Morkin; and his great-nephew, Mekhi Radtke.
"We love you so and will miss you desperately, Dearest Steph, but we know we will meet again someday.
Special 'Thank you' to the kind compassionate care of the staff at the Door County Medical Center Pete and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing Facility and Unity Hospice."
Memorials to Crossroads at Big Creek, Steph's favorite place to go for walks (2041 Michigan Street, P.O. Box 608, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235; www.crossroadsatbigcreek.org).
A private graveside service will be held at Ottawa Cemetery in the Town of Ottawa on Saturday, January 6, 2024.
