Sharyn Nichols Obituary

Sharyn Kay Nichols, age 76 of the Town of Sevastopol, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at the Door County Medical Center.

She was born on June 2, 1947, to the late Merle and Margaret (Jansen) Byrne in Antigo, WI.

Sharyn is a 1965 graduate of Antigo High School. After high school, she attended flight attendant school before moving to West Virginia where she worked as a secretary at the Pentagon and the library of the Navy. She later moved to Chicago, where she worked as a secretary for the Cook County School District. While in Chicago, she had her first two children, Tammy and Shaun. The family moved to Two Rivers, where she worked at the Manitowoc Clinic as a professional secretary for Dr. Binard and the Burger Boat Company. Sharyn became a stay-at-home mom after she had her third child Kristin and fourth child Katie. Once her children got a little bit older, she worked for the Manitowoc – Two Rivers YMCA where she headed fund raising for the expansion project in the late 1980’s and eventually worked for Cooks Corner. She moved to Florida where she worked as a secretary for Cape Coral Real Estate Association. In 2008, she returned to Wisconsin and made Door County her home. She briefly worked at Tranquil Timbers Campground, before retiring.

When she was younger, she was a great tennis player. Later in life she enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, ceramics and other arts. She loved Elvis and collecting his memorabilia. The only thing she loved more than Elvis was her family, especially her grandchildren.

Sharyn is survived by her three daughters, Tammy (David) Hartwig, Kristin “Krissy” Nichols, and Katie (Matt) Nichols-Henrickson; grandchildren, Dayna (Matt) Peroutka, Sawyer (Kylee Humphrey) Hartwig, Callyn (Luis Rodriguez) Hartwig, Alandra Brantley, Bailey Henrickson, Khloe Henrickson, Kylie Henrickson, and Symone (Rodolfo) Garcia; great grandchildren, Jackson, Luna, Lennex, Mateo, Liliana, Isabelle, Jonathan, and Rachel; siblings, Linda Byrne Huettel, Mary (Dean) Nugent, and Pat (Jeana) Byrne; friends, Scott and Kathy Ward and their children, Jenny, Sarah, and Emily.  She is further survived by other relatives and friends.

She is preceded by her son, Shaun Nichols; parents, Merle and Margaret; aunt, Katherine “Boots” Voysey; niece, Jamie Byrne; and brother-in-law, Arnie Huettel.

Sharyn’s family would like to thank Patty, Rebecca, Heather, Courtney, Kelsie and Brianna from the Door County Medical Center ICU, Dr. Binard for all the years of dedicated and compassionate care, and Unity Hospice Staff.
