Ronald Aloysius Ploor, 84, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Door County Medical Center.
He was born November 28, 1939 in Sturgeon Bay, son of the late Aloysius Anton and Emily Mathilda (Wilke) Ploor. After graduating from Sevastopol High School with the Class of 1957, Ron attended University of Wisconsin – Madison. On September 25, 1959, Ron and Jeanne Ruth Nelson were united in marriage at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Institute. Together, they enjoyed traveling Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on May 24, 2017 after 57 years of marriage. Ron was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served on the parish council for six years and made his famous coleslaw for the yearly fish fry. He also was a Boy Scouts of America Committee Member. Ron enjoyed watching the Packers, gardening, and collecting cast-iron toys.
Ron will be missed by his children, Timothy Ploor of Sturgeon Bay, Terri (Jeffrey) Gingold of Milwaukee, and Todd (Kim) Ploor of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Ivy Ploor of South Carolina, Lauren (Tyler) and Meredith (Alec Werning) Gingold of Minneapolis, Ian Baartz of Hawaii, and Rowan Ploor of Sturgeon Bay; brothers, Dan Ploor of Sturgeon Bay and David (Yolanda) Ploor of New Mexico; and brother-in-law, Don (Phyllis) Nelson of Maryland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Jeanne’s parents, Olaf and Hartha Nelson; brothers-in-law, Howard (Betty) Nelson and Vernon (Jane) Nelson; and sister-in-law, Helen Ploor.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church Tuesday morning from 9:30 a.m. until 10:40 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to St. Joseph Catholic Church or St. John Bosco Catholic School.
