Roger Pinkert Obituary

Roger Pinkert, 81, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Wednesday (March 16, 2022) at home with his family.

He was born June 16, 1940, in Milwaukee, the son of Henry and Virginia (Chorney) Pinkert.  Roger graduated from Wauwatosa High School in 1958; he received a B.S. degree from the University of Wisconsin in 1963 and went on to receive his law degree from UW-Madison in 1967. Many summer vacations in Roger’s youth were spent in Door County with his family and he, coincidentally, through friends, met Sara Stedman from Sturgeon Bay while both were attending Madison. They were married February 10, 1962 and moved to Sturgeon Bay after graduation.

Roger opened his own law practice but soon partnered with Attorney Herman Leasum with offices on Third Avenue above The Advocate. Throughout the years, the partnership evolved into The Pinkert Law Firm, where he worked for more than 30 years with partners and colleagues who were very special to him.

Roger loved being with people and engaging with and caring for many of his clients both professionally and personally.

In retirement, he enjoyed playing cards with his two buddies, Dennis Starr and Jim Anderson; golfing with friends and family; winters in Florida with new and wonderful friends; and trips to the casino. Despite many health issues, Roger felt blessed during his life and was known as the man with 1,000 lives.

His surviving family includes his dear wife of 60 years, Sara; three children, Mike of Green Bay, Jon (Leanne) of Sturgeon Bay, Kristine (Peter) Juntunen of Wrightstown; eight grandchildren he adored, Santana and Taylor Pinkert; twins, Ella and Emily, and Elijah Pinkert;  Evan, Lauren, and Reagan Juntunen; two sisters, Patricia (Robert) Hollinger of Windsor, CO, and Elaine Pinkert of Milwaukee; in-laws, Robert (Joaline) Stedman of Corona del Mar, CA and John “Mike” Stedman of San Francisco, CA; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Also surviving is his very special private secretary for many, many years, Sheryl Ripp.

He was predeceased by his parents; in-laws, Lougee and Ella May Stedman; loving aunts and uncles; and sister-in-law.

A celebration of his life with family and friends will be announced and held later this summer. Private burial will be at Bayside Cemetery, Rev. Philip Sweet officiating.

Memorials in Roger’s memory may be directed to his mother-in-law’s educational scholarship: The Ella May Stedman Foundation, P.O. Box 89, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235-0089 or to a charity of choice.

A special thanks goes out to the staff of St. Paul’s Rehabilitation, Kaukauna, WI; the staff of Unity Hospice and the staff of DaVita Dialysis for the loving care provided to Roger throughout his needs. A special memorial thanks also goes out to the late Richard and Jean Vollrath for providing the 60 years ago wedding at Pine Hills Country Club in Sheboygan, WI.
