Roger A. Crass, 84, Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Monday, December 29, 2025 at Cherry Cove Assisted Living and Memory Care.

Roger Allan Crass was born June 28, 1941, in Sturgeon Bay, to Merton and Sylvia (Walker) Crass. He attended Sturgeon Bay High School and graduated in 1959. While in high school, Roger participated in football, basketball and track. He loved playing all sports, but earned the nickname, Roger the Dodger, from his football prowess. His success in high school football led him to Ripon College. He played football and wrestled for the Red Hawks while completing his Army ROTC training and earning his undergraduate degree in education. He served 4 years in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Korea, where he continued his football career. Roger earned a new nickname, The Snake, and was named All Conference half back for the Frontiersman. Roger was also selected to the All-Star Team in 1965. While in Korea, Roger met the love of his life, Sun Cha Pak, and they were married on January 27, 1967 in Seoul, Korea. They brought two children into this world, Linda and Stephen. Roger continued his military service by completing 16 more years in the U.S. Army Reserves, retiring with the rank of Major.

Following his active duty commitment, Roger taught math in Grant Park, IL before moving his family back to Sturgeon Bay. He worked at Peterson Builders as an electrician and eventually a purchasing agent until the company closed. Roger attended NWTC to further his education in CAD drawing and design, leading to a career at Bay Engineering, Palmer Johnsons and Berger Boats before retiring.

Roger was a devout Christian, as evidenced by his membership of the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church for over 50 years. He served the church in many roles including teaching Sunday school, singing in the choir and participating in countless fellowship meetings and events. He served on multiple boards and committees and was the most requested soloist for funerals, weddings and other events.

Roger was also committed to several organizations including being a Master Mason and Past Master of Henry S. Baird #174 Lodge in Sturgeon Bay, an officer and meritorious Service Award winner as a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Green Bay, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Honor Chapter #1 in Sturgeon Bay, and a member of the Choraliers and the Peninsula Players.

Roger continued his love of sports in his adult life by playing hockey with his shipyard buddies, city league basketball, slow pitch softball and flag football. Roger also became involved in coaching youth sports. Over the years, he coached baseball, softball, hockey, wrestling and freshman football at SBHS.
