Robert Frank Meingast, age 83 of Sturgeon Bay, left his earthly world on October 18, 2024. He went to be with his much-loved Pa, Uncle Gerry, and Grandma Alma, who cherished him his whole life, as well as his in-laws, William and Joan Worley.
In 1960, Bob enlisted and proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Oglethorpe. While on board, his ship was sent in as support during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Bob was honorably discharged in 1964 with the rank of Petty-Officer 2nd class (E5).
Bob was an avid hunter and fisherman. He continued until his ALS symptoms deteriorated his muscles and he was unable to enjoy his love of these sports.
Bob is survived by his wife of 35 years, Cheryl, whom Bob always remarked that marrying her was the best thing he did in his life; his beloved son, Kurt (Grace) and their children, Sabrina and Krista; daughter Ann; and his half-brother, Hans.
The Meingast family would like to extend a special thank you to the very special VA ALS Milwaukee team of doctors, nurses and all the therapists, as well as his VA Green Bay team. Their support and caring were truly uplifting, medically supportive, and comforting to both Bob and Cheryl. The family would also like to thank the DCMC ER and ICU nurses, doctors and respiratory therapists in caring for Bob and supporting Cheryl.
Per Bobs wishes, no services will be held. Bob’s ashes will be laid to rest alongside Cheryl’s family in Shiloh Moravian Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers to the family, memorials may be made in Bob’s honor to the Paralyzed Veterans of America, Wisconsin Chapter, which had been a great support during his struggles with ALS (Lou Gerig’s disease). The address is 750 North Lincoln Memorial Drive, Suite 306, Milwaukee WI 53202-4018.
Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Cremation Services is assisting the Meingast family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Bob may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.HuehnsFuneralHome.com.
