Rick C. Stram, age 66, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Manistique, MI, passed away at his home on Monday, March 21, 2022.
He was born June 3, 1955, in Sturgeon Bay to the late Matthew and Adeline (Lickman) Stram. Rick graduated from Manistique High School in 1973 and went on to receive his degree in accounting from Marquette University. On May 28, 1977, he married Sally Brandstrom in Manistique.
Following his retirement from Hiawatha Behavioral Health, he and his wife relocated to Sturgeon Bay. Having vacationed there for over 40 years, it was finally time to call Door County home. Rick had a love for water and all that it entailed-- freighters, lighthouses and boating. Each year he looked forward to watching the fleet of freighters lay up for the winter and then set sail in the spring. He was fortunate enough to have traveled on a few trips on the freighters.
When he wasn’t out on the water boating with his family, he could be found down at the Stone Quarry enjoying the sunsets while reading about the history and ships of the Great Lakes. Rick maintained a positive outlook on life, even as his health deteriorated. He was grateful for each and every moment, cherishing the time spent with family and friends.
Rick is survived by his wife of 44 years, Sally; his two children, Susan (Chris) Schultz and Matt Stram; four grandchildren, Alice, Rudie, Joey, and Jacob; his brother, Bob (Pam) Stram; mother-in-law Dorothy Brandstrom; in-laws, Sara (Doug) Nelson, Susie (Dan) Schulz, Mary (Jim) Nelson, and Bob (Deb) Brandstrom; along with several nieces and nephews.
Rick wanted to make sure a special thanks went out to the staff of Green Bay Oncology and Unity Hospice. The continued love and support from those around him gave him the strength to find joy and contentment in each day.
Internment and services for family and friends will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 7, 2022 at Bayside Cemetery Chapel.
