Everyone needs a Pam in their lives. She was the biggest cheerleader and friend to her husband, brothers and sisters-in-law. And she was the worldly “cool” aunt to her nieces and nephew.

Pamela Ann (Stewart) McGee, 75, of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, died Tuesday morning, November 16, 2021 at Bellin Hospital in Green Bay.

She was born December 10, 1945, in Yankton, South Dakota, to the late Robert Lloyd Stewart and Lucille Effie (Lindgren) Stewart. Pam graduated from Green Bay West High School with the class of 1964 and studied education at UW-Whitewater where she earned her degree. She began her master’s studies in special education and initially served as an elementary schoolteacher in Manitowoc.

Pam first met Douglas Weldon McGee while they were both in high school, at St. Anne Episcopal Church in De Pere. They were united in marriage on September 23, 1972. Pam decided to adjust her career path and went to work for Lakeview Hospital in Milwaukee as a purchasing director, the first female purchasing director for the hospital, a position she held for more than 25 years. Together, she and Doug attended St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church in Elm Grove and St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Milwaukee’s east side.

After more than two decades in Milwaukee, Pam and Doug moved to Door County. Pam was looking for a new challenge and outlet for her considerable social skills. She quickly found work in several retail stores where she made fast friends with locals and tourists alike. Her story came full circle when she worked as an early childhood educator at Door County Children’s Center before her retirement.

Pam believed in empowering women through education and was a member of P.E.O. Chapter EI of Sturgeon Bay, a philanthropic organization committed to the advancement of women. She was active in her community through Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church, as a member of the Door County Land Trust and with Door Concerts (while Doug was president of that organization).

Pam loved to travel. Over the course of her life, she visited cities across the world, including the United States, England, Scotland, Spain and Guatemala. Her adventurous spirit carries on through her nieces and nephew.

Pam was also an avid reader, bridge player and fan of classical music. She especially loved live performances.

Pam will be greatly missed by her husband Doug of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, with whom she shared over 49 years of marriage; her brothers and their spouses - Dennis (Pat) Stewart of the Town of Ledgeview and Bob (Donna) Stewart of Fitchburg; her sister-in-law Pamela (McGee) Phelps of Leander, TX; her nieces Jen (Will) Wittkopf, Jackie Stewart, Jacob (Jenny) Stewart and Molly (Justin) Dall’Osto; her great-nieces Mackenzie Wittkopf and Zoe Wittkopf; and her great-nephew Arlo Dall’Osto.

Sincere thanks to the staff at Bellevue Senior Living, Bellin Hospital and Unity Hospice for the warm, compassionate care provided to Pam. Your kindness is so appreciated.

Pam’s life will be honored with a memorial service held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, December 3, 2021 at the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church with Rev. Kenneth Boettcher officiating. Friends may call at the church Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to P.E.O. Chapter EI (6077 Trillium Ln., Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235), or treat yourself to a good book, and think of Pam as you immerse yourself in the story.
