Nancy Miller Obituary

Nancy Ann Miller, 96, of Baileys Harbor, WI, was called Home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Serenity Spring Senior Living at Scandia Village in Sister Bay.

She was born July 24, 1929 in Illinois, the daughter of John J. and Rosalie (Schifano) Maturi. Nancy was raised Catholic and graduated from Immaculata High School in Chicago, IL with the class of 1948. She went on to study elementary education at Chicago Teachers College (now Chicago State University) where she earned her degree.

Nancy taught kindergarten and first grade for Chicago Public Schools on the north side of Chicago until her retirement in the 1970s.

She first met Charles Joseph "Joe" Miller at a Catholic social club event in the 1960s. Following the death of Joe’s first wife Patricia, Nancy and Joe reconnected and eventually united in marriage on December 15, 2000 at the Catholic Church at Maryville Academy in Des Plaines, IL.

Nancy was parishioner at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Glenview, IL before attending various parishes in the Chicago area. As an educator, she was a member of the Chicago Public Teachers Association and various social clubs over the years.

Nancy and Joe moved to Door County, WI in the early 2000s and resided in Baileys Harbor. They joined St. Mary of the Lake Parish (now Stella Maris Parish-Baileys Harbor site) where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Sodality (women’s group). Nancy and Joe attended Mass at the Fish Creek and Sister Bay sites in recent years.

Nancy was an accomplished artist. Her oil paintings were beautiful. Her mother was an organist, which fostered Nancy's love for music. Nancy was a piano player and filled her home with music from her playing on her baby grand. Some of her music was even recorded on cassette tape.

Nancy is survived by her husband, Joe, with whom she shared over 25 years of marriage; Joe's children, Joseph (Marie) Miller of Buffalo Grove, IL, Dr. Rita (Dr. Paul Morgan) Miller of Winona, MN, and Maureen (Daniel) Conzemius of Green Bay, WI; grandchildren, Patricia and Elizabeth Miller and Mary, Megan, and Patrick Morgan; other relatives; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ann Langrill and Dolores (James) Kunath; and other relatives.

Nancy's life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial prayed at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 6, 2026 at Stella Maris Parish-Sister Bay site, 2410 S. Bay Shore Drive, Sister Bay, WI 54234 with Fr. Thomas Farrell as celebrant. She will be laid to rest in All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines, IL beside her parents.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m.

"Our family would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the staffs of Serenity Spring and Unity Hospice for the wonderful and compassionate care you gave to Nancy."
