Mildred "Joey" Lydia Radke

     Mildred “Joey” Lydia Radke, 95, of the Town of Sevastopol, was called Home to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning, October 19, 2021.

     She was born October 29, 1925 at home in the Town of Jacksonport, one of thirteen children born to William N. Kiehnau, Sr. and Lydia Laura (Treichel) Kiehnau. Mildred grew up attending Farview School and Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, both in West Jacksonport.

     She was among the first in the family to graduate from Sevastopol High School, class of 1943. Mildred was united in marriage to Raymond Paul Schroeder at Atonement Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They were married 20 years and had three children. Raymond preceded Mildred in death on June 9, 1996.

     Mildred went back to school midlife for business. She worked at Northwestern Mutual for several years and then went back to school for nursing degree with her sister, Florence. Mildred worked at St. Luke’s in Milwaukee as an RN. She then went to work at Blue Cross Blue Shield and became a National Hospital Claims Adjustor.

     Mildred married Walter Radke in 1978 at Oklahoma Avenue Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. They shared 20 years together. Walter preceded her in death on August 18, 1998.

     Mildred returned to Door County in 2009 to live with her daughters and son-in-law. She was a member of St. Peters Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. Mildred belonged to the WWII 8th Armored Division Widows Auxiliary. Both of her husbands served in WWII, Walter in the 8th Armor Division.

     Mildred was an avid bowler and quite good at it. She loved playing cards, sheepshead being her favorite. Mildred loved working in her huge vegetable garden where not a weed or stone would be found. She enjoyed canning what her garden produced, baking (she made great pies), and cooking beef dinners for family gatherings.

     Mildred had a deep faith that provided a foundation for her life and her family’s. She had a quick wit and would tell it like it was. When looking back on her life she would say, “I am very happy with what God has allowed me to do.”

     Mildred will be missed by her two daughters and one son, Barbara Daniels and Cindy (Herbert) Mount, both of the Town of Sevastopol, Tommy Schroeder of Milwaukee. She had five grandchildren, Carri (Dan) Busse, Kelly Catarozoli, Paul (Abbey) Mount, Josh (Kathy) Mount, and Pastor Nicholas (Diana) Mount. Mildred had many great-grandchildren and will be missed by them; brother, Donald "Butch" Kiehnau of Grafton; many other family; and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; eleven siblings, Harold (Dolores), Fred "Fritz" (Doris), Carl (Margaret), William (Elizabeth “Betty”) Jr., Reuben (Doris), (infant) Henry, Dorothy (Harold) Perkins, Olive (Verlin) Braley, Florence "Dickie" Reagles, Leonard “Mike” (Joyce), and Norman; sister-in-law, Ruth Kiehnau; and other relatives.      

     A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport with Pastor Carl Schroeder, of St. Peters Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay, officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery.

     Visitation for family and friends will be held at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m.

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Mildred’s name for Zion Ev. Lutheran Church (6710 County Road T, Egg Harbor, WI 54209).
