Michael "Mike" Marolt Obituary

Michael "Mike" John Marolt, 78, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Saturday morning, June 1, 2024 at Cherry Cove Assisted Living in Sturgeon Bay with family at his side.

He was born September 8, 1945 in Oak Park, IL, the son of August Marolt and Johanna "Jennie" (Krosel) Marolt. Mike grew up attending Visitation Church and Grade School, then Immaculate Conception High School, all in Elmhurst, IL and graduated with the class of 1963.

He enlisted to serve his country with the United States Air Force, entering into service on September 25, 1963. Mike was stationed at Grand Forks AFB in the Security Police Squadron where he became a Green Bay Packers fan. He was honorably discharged from active service on September 22, 1967 and remained with the Air Force Reserve until honorably discharged on September 24, 1969 with the rank of Sergeant.

Mike met Susan "Susie" Mary Schroeder in 1968 on a blind date. They were married six months later, on December 28, 1968. Together, Mike and Susie resided on the northwest side of Chicago, IL.

Mike was employed by Illinois Bell/AT&T, initially in installation and then as a service technician. He retired from the phone company after 30 years of service.

Mike and Susie moved to Door County, WI in 2007 and resided in Sturgeon Bay.

Mike was known for his great love of music and for his extensive record collection. He loved singing with his best friend, but above all, Mike loved his family.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Susie, with whom he was blessed to share over 55 years of marriage; children, Curtis (Tara) Marolt of Indian Head Park, IL and Joanna (Tom) Czubernat of Hillside, IL, grandchildren, Keely and Ava Marolt, and Jacob Czubernat; siblings, Mary "Carolyn" Bennett of Forest Park, IL and Gary (Patricia "Bunny") Marolt of Port St. Lucie, FL; nieces and nephews; and friends.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in law, Norman Schroeder and Katherine (Reames) Schroeder, brothers-in-law, Gerald Bennett and John Schroeder; and other relatives.

Family will gather privately at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force and V.F.W. Post #3088. Mike will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol.

Memorials may be given in Mike's honor for Operation Not Alone (P.O. Box 314, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235; www.operationnotalone.net).
