Marie K. (Morman) Cady

     Marie K Cady, 79, of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Ellison Bay and Madison, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Cherry Cove Assisted Living in Sturgeon Bay.

     She was born March 24, 1944, in Washington DC, the daughter of Frederick and Martha (Petermann) Morman. Marie attended High School in North Dakota, graduating in 1962. She received her undergrad in Art and French at the University of Northern Illinois and finished there with a master’s degree in education. On July 6, 1974, she married H. "Smitty" Cady in North Dakota. Marie and Smitty lived in Madison, before retiring to Ellison Bay and, most recently, to Sturgeon Bay.

     Marie was a Master Gardener, taking great pride in her extensive gardens. There was not an orphaned plant left by the side of the road she could not coax back to health. She was a teacher of all kinds, teaching high school, running her own childcare, and leading multiple Girl Scout troops. Her life lessons are famous among her children’s friends. She was a very gregarious woman with a wicked sense of humor, always willing to help others when needed, and will be remembered for her rebellious spirit.

     Marie will be missed by her husband, Smitty; two daughters, Tina (Cody) Cady of Madison, WI, and Andrea Rank (significant other, Brad Fagan) of Madison, WI; granddaughter, Josephine Rank; two sisters, Susan Morman and Sarah Morman, of Bismarck, ND.

     Preceding her in death were her parents, and three brothers, Fred, Jack, and Greg.    

     Marie's life will be honored at a later date to be determined. She will be laid to rest in Resurrection Cemetery in Madison, WI.

     Memorials may be given in her name to Girl Scouts of Wisconsin - Badgerland.
