Margaret "Peggy" Seizer Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Jean Seizer (nee Johnson), 62, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully early Sunday, September 8, 2024 at Anna's House CBRF in New Franken.

Peggy was born August 18, 1962 to Earl "Kinsey" Johnson and Shirley Ann (Simon) Johnson in Sturgeon Bay. She grew up attending the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School with the class of 1981. Peggy went on to attend Madison Area Technical College and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with a degree in early childhood development.

On May 21, 1994, she was united in marriage to Craig Royce Seizer at the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church.

Peggy's love will live on in hearts of her husband, Craig, with whom she shared over 30 years of marriage; daughter, Rachel Julia Seizer of Madison; siblings, Kathy Johnson (Tom Tollefsen) of West Chester, PA, Chuck (Nicole Engisch) Johnson of  Bloomington, MN, and Steve Johnson of Sturgeon Bay; nieces and nephews, David and Christopher Tollefsen, and Anthony and Nadia Johnson; sister-in-law, Stacey (Dave) Anderson (and their son, Travis (Shanna) and children); as well as many other family; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and parents-in-law, Ronald Seizer and Josephine Courtright.

After graduating from college, Peggy worked in the town she grew up in and loved, Sturgeon Bay. Her work career began with a short stint at Midwest Wire where she first met Craig. Peggy went on to work at a local childcare center. After she married and had her daughter, she began a twenty-year career at Sunshine Resources of Door County (Sunshine House Inc.) in Sturgeon Bay, where she formed many lifelong friendships. Her work at the Sunshine House put disability advocacy at the center of her life for many years. Peggy believed in treating all with dignity and compassion.

As the daughter of a librarian, Peggy was a voracious reader (especially of historical fiction) and had a curiosity about the world around her. She spent countless hours outdoors gardening around her home, hiking through Potawatomi State Park, Crossroads at Big Creek, and as many Land Trust Preserves as she and Craig could find. Peggy was a lifelong member of the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church. She particularly enjoyed music at church services, working in the nursery, and attending retreats at Mt. Morris Camp and Conference Center in Wautoma. Many will fondly remember Peggy for her years of bus driving for the church’s annual evening of Christmas caroling.

Peggy's life will be celebrated with a memorial service held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp, Sr. officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday, September 21, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The service will be livesteamed via the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/@sturgeonbaymoravianchurch6367).
