Margaret A. Rowland, 71 years of Sturgeon Bay, formerly of Brookfield, passed away suddenly on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at her home in Door County.
She was born on April 25, 1951, in Milwaukee, the daughter of the late Chester and Anne (March) Rowland Jr. While raising her family, Margaret received her undergraduate degree and master’s degree at Cardinal Stritch College. She was a reading specialist at multiple public schools and institutions and retired from Oconomowoc High School. In retirement, Margaret taught study skills and standardized test prep at WCTC. She retired full-time to her Door County home in September of 2021.
Margaret was a talented artist, spiritualist, and Reiki Master. She was kind, patient, appreciated others for their individual uniqueness and dedicated much time to teaching “at risk” children. Margaret enjoyed quilting, weaving, knitting, and reading. She had a love for animals and participated in multiple rescues. She was unique, independent, and often went against the norm. She loved a good cup of coffee, being in nature and spending time with friends and family.
Surviving family includes her six children, Chris (Lindsay) DeStefanis of Delafield, Tony DeStefanis of Shorewood, Erica Kasdorf of Sturgeon Bay, Nicholas DeStefanis of Brown Deer, Angela DeStefanis of Cudahy, Ed (Kristin) Sarskas of Pewaukee; four grandchildren, Jake Kasdorf, John DeStefanis, Everly and Levi DeStefanis; one sister, Louise (Kevin) Birschbach of West Bend; aunt, Mary Kay Rowland of Canada; nephews, Ben and Matt Singer.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Chester and Anne Rowland, and sister, Mary Singer.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, February 23, 2023 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Mark Richards officiating. Friends may call at Huehns Funeral Home Thursday from 12:00 noon until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.
Services in Brookfield will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 24, 2023 at Harder Funeral Home in Brookfield. Friends may call at Harder Funeral Home Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Milwaukee.
