Margaret Jane Emmerich

     Margaret Jane Emmerich, 89, of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home to be with the Lord, Monday evening, September 21, 2020 at Door County Medical Center with family at her side.

     She was born January 4, 1931 in Wild Rose, the daughter of James Orval Jones and Margaret Enid (Owens) Jones. Margaret graduated from Wild Rose High School with the class of 1949 and went on to study Home Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where she earned her degree. She accepted her first (Home Economics) teaching position at Bowler High School where she taught for one year. While at Bowler, Margaret met George Edwin Emmerich, and they were united in marriage on July 17, 1954 at Wild Rose Presbyterian Church. She went to teach at Mosinee High School until 1958. While in Mosinee, Margaret and George also established and operated Emmerich Floral (greenhouse). In October of 1958, she and George moved to Marinette, and their second daughter, Kay, was born the following day (after their move). Margaret and George resided in Marinette with their family until 1961 when they moved to Green Bay. They spent several years in Green Bay before relocating to Sturgeon Bay in 1964. After raising her family, Margaret started teaching again at Sturgeon Bay Junior High and Sturgeon Bay High School until her retirement. Margaret and George were winter residents of New Smyrna Beach, FL for over 34 years.

     She was currently a member of Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church, active in the Women's Circle, there, years ago. Margaret was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Honor, Chapter #1 in Sturgeon Bay and was a past Worthy Matron. She was a leader of the Silverdale 4-H Club in the Town of Sturgeon Bay. Margaret enjoyed water walking at the Door County YMCA in Sturgeon Bay. She was a wonderful baker, most notably for her (millions of) cookies-every kind you could imagine, cinnamon rolls, and lemon meringue pie. Margaret was also an excellent cook and enjoyed going shrimping in Florida. Shrimp gumbo was one of her signature recipes. Margaret was an avid knitter and sewed incessantly, making quillows, table covers, and Packer sweaters for all of her family, and she also liked embroidery. She had a passion for gardening and enjoyed tending to her flowers, especially her gardenias and poinsettias.

     Margaret's love will live on in the hearts of her husband, George, with whom she was blessed with over 66 years of marriage; four children, Ann (Stephen Ofenbeck) Emmerich of Sturgeon Bay, Kay (Kurt) Scott of Peshtigo, Margaret "Peggy" (Lewis) Haddle of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Joel (Carri) Emmerich of Green Bay; eight grandchildren, Nancy (Alex) Scibelli-Bouthilet and Neal (Erin) Scibelli, Andrew "Drew" (Sarah) Scott, Matthew Scott, and Alison Scott, Kenneth "K.C." (Shelly) Middleton, and Christina (Jesse) Lindauer and Daniel Emmerich; eleven great-grandchildren, Felix and Luc, Theodore and Abraham, Noah and Quinn, Charlotte, Jason, and Samuel, and Abigail and Landon; three siblings, Bess (Bernie) Alberg of Kenosha, John Jones of Wild Rose, and David (Beverly) Jones of New Brighton, MN; sister-in-law, Verla Jones of Wild Rose; and other relatives.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; three siblings, Orval Jones, Bob Jones, and Ann (Carl) Drottz; three sisters-in-law, June Jones, Elaine Jones, and Merna Bell Jones; and other relatives.

     Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 2, 2020 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay, and dual-chapel occupancy at the funeral home will be limited to 50 people (25 people per chapel), including family. Visitation will continue at Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church, Saturday morning, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the Eastern Star service at 10:40 a.m. by the Order of the Eastern Star Honor, Chapter #1.

     Margaret's life will be honored with a memorial service held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church with Rev. David Leistra officiating. Attendance within the sanctuary at church will be limited to 50 people (including family in attendance). Additional seating (with live service viewing) will be available in a couple of the lounges at church (10-15 people per lounge).

     She will be laid to rest in Shiloh Moravian Cemetery following the memorial service.

     The memorial service will be livestreamed via the "Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC" Facebook page. Those anticipating viewing the service via Facebook are encouraged to "Like" the funeral home Facebook page any day (or time) prior to the service to receive immediate notification of the (live) broadcast.

     Those attending the visitations, memorial, and/or (cemetery) committal are to wear facemasks and maintain social distancing. Temperature checks will be provided, and hand sanitizer will be available upon entry into the funeral home and church.

     Memorials may be given in Margaret's name for a cancer organization of one's choice or any other charity/cause of choice.
