Lawrence Henkel Obituary

Lawrence Joseph Henkel, 80, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020 at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.

He was born June 21, 1939 in Sturgeon Bay, son of the late George and Olga (Peterson) Henkel. After graduating from Sevastopol High School, Larry attended St. Nobert College in De Pere. On October 24, 1964, he married Jean Marie VanDuyse at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church, where the two remained lifelong members. Larry served on the church maintenance and finance committees and volunteered for the annual church fish boils. He worked at PBI for over 25 years and at Scandia Village in maintenance for 25 years. Larry was proud of his garden and was a Packers season ticket holder for many years. He loved to tinker, putz, and fix things for other people.  Larry enjoyed visiting with others, telling jokes, going to Packer games, going deer hunting and stopping on Tuesdays and Thursdays to “get the paper.”  His family and friends were what was important to him.

Larry will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 55 years, Jean; children, Mark Henkel of Columbus, Ohio, Monica (Ralph) Phillips of San Antonio, Texas, Brian (Gail) Henkel of Mount Dessert, Maine, and Eric (Tammy) Henkel of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Monique (Drew) Owens, Andrew (Miranda) DeWitte, John DeWitte, Harriet Henkel, Lexie Henkel, Hallie Henkel, and Luke Henkel; one great-grandson, Langston Owens; nephew, George (Julie) Henkel III; and niece, Stacey (Kirk) Volkmann.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, George and sister-in-law, Jackie (Stellwagen) Henkel II.

Due to the current state advisories regarding COVID-19, Larry will be laid to rest in a private graveside ceremony at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Institute.

Memorial donations may be made in Larry’s name to SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church or Door CANcer, Inc.
