Kurt Alan Tingwald, affectionately known as Kurtie, passed away on September 1, 2024, at the age of 74 in Boca Raton, Florida. Born on July 26, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he grew up attending Walker Junior High and Pulaski High School.
Kurt embarked on a fulfilling career in the sheet metal industry, where he began as an apprentice and ascended to the role of project manager and part owner of Downey, Inc. His early passion for cars led him to become a chief mechanic and pit crew chief, primarily for stock cars and modifieds raced by his brother, Ken, among others. This love for cars remained a significant part of his life.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Kurt cherished his time at Fence Lake, where he enjoyed boating, Friday fish fries, holiday parties, and sunset cocktail cruises with family and friends. Following these cherished times, he and his wife, Sandy, divided their time between Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, during the summers and Boca Raton, Florida, during the winters.
Kurt is survived by his loving wife, Sondra Tingwald; daughter, Kris and Mike Kersey; stepsons, Eddie and Lynn Dumala and John and Terri Dumala along with grandchildren Alex, Morgan, Jacob, Erica, Ryan, Johnny and Luke; sister, Karen (Gerald) Switalski; brother, Ken (Maria) Tingwald; mother of his daughter, Terry Ann Lesnik of Grafton, WI; and nieces and nephews.
Kurt also celebrated life with cousins, friends, work associates and numerous others he met throughout his life. Kurt was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Laverne Tingwald, and Eric Dumala.
A celebration of life will be held in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay. Visitation will be from 1pm to 3pm with a celebration of life ceremony at 3pm. Immediately following the ceremony a cocktail and hors d'oeuvre reception to follow at Stone Harbor Resort in Sturgeon Bay. A block of rooms are being held under the name Tingwald.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kurt's memory to the ALS Association at ALS.org or the American Cancer Society at cancer.org. These contributions honor his compassionate spirit and his enduring battle with life's challenges.
