Kevin Volkmann Obituary

Kevin Michael Volkmann, 59, of Normal, IL, passed away Friday night, January 29, 2021 at the Carle BroMenn Medical Center in Normal.

He was born January 24, 1962 in Sturgeon Bay, WI, the son of Kenneth Julius Volkmann and Carol Catherine (Junion) Volkmann. Kevin grew up attending Saints Peter and Paul School and Parish in Institute where he received the initial sacraments of Holy Baptism, First Communion, and Confirmation. Going through school, it was evident what a brilliant mind he had. Kevin graduated from Sevastopol High School with the class of 1980 and went on to study at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for a year. He had developed an appreciation for warmer weather over the years, following an accident he experienced at the age of 12, and decided to move to San Diego, CA following his initial studies at Madison. Kevin lived in California for 10 years while working as a computer technician before moving to Austin, TX. He remained there for 10 years and then moved to Normal, IL. There, Kevin was employed with the University of Illinois and worked in food services and also tutored students.

Earlier in life, he was a member of the Boy Scouts and enjoyed playing baseball and going fishing with his dad. Kevin was a very independent person and never let his (physical) disability prevent him from living. He definitely LIVED LIFE to the fullest. Kevin LOVED his FAMILY and could always be counted on for a hug and “I love you.”

He will be missed by his mother, Carol of Sturgeon Bay; siblings, Kim (Gary) Schopf, Konnie Gordon, Kris Volkmann, all of Sturgeon Bay, Kirk (Stacey) Volkmann of Valmy, and Keith (Mary) Volkmann of Sturgeon Bay; nieces and nephews, Stephanie (Jake) Peterson, David (Dakotah) Gordon, Tracy (Kevin) Allen, Jill (Josh) Paul, Matthew Gauger, Drew Tanck, Kyle (Amy) Volkmann, Kambria Volkmann, Ella Volkmann, Madilyn Volkmann, and Aleah Volkmann; great-nieces and great-nephews, Clayton, Caleb, and Cole Peterson, Charlotte, Luci, and Abigail Gordon, and Sofia, Isaac, and Benjamin Allen; and other relatives.

Kevin was preceded in death by his father; great-nephew, Hope Allen; and other relatives.

A private family prayer service will be held at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Robert Stegmann officiating. Kevin will be laid to rest by his father, Kenneth, in Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Institute.

A celebration of Kevin’s life will be held Saturday, August 7, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Egg Harbor Town Hall in Carlsville.

Memorials may be given in his honor for Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Kevin may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.
