Kenneth Volkmann Obituary

     Kenneth Julius Volkmann, 86, of the Town of Sevastopol, was called Home to be with the Lord, with his loving family by his side, on October 1, 2019 at the Peter and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing and Hospice Care Center in Sturgeon Bay. 

     Ken was born in Egg Harbor on August 12, 1933, the son of Frederick and Mildred Amelia (Martens) Volkmann. He attended Sunnypoint School and graduated from Sevastopol High School. On June 29, 1957, he married Carol Catherine Junion sharing 62 years together. 

     Ken was a semi-truck driver for Smith & Schartner for 12 years and for Schneider Transport for 20 years. After retirement, he enjoyed helping at Lily Bay Sawmill and Henschel Sawmill & Farm. 

     Ken was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed vacationing with his family, was an outdoor enthusiast and partook in hobbies such as snowmobiling, fishing, water skiing and playing sports with his children and grandchildren. Ken was well known for his beautiful garden on the corner of Highway 42 and County Road P where he lived most of his life. He was a wonderful handyman and could fix anything and everything. 

     Ken will be missed by his wife, Carol; children, Kim (Gary) Schopf of Sturgeon Bay, Konnie Gordon of Sturgeon Bay, Kevin Volkmann of Normal IL, Kris Volkmann of Sturgeon Bay, Kirk (Stacey) Volkmann of Valmy, and Keith (Mary) Volkmann of Sturgeon Bay; eleven grandchildren, Stephanie (Jake) Peterson of Green Bay, David (Dakotah) Gordon of Luxemburg, Tracy (Kevin) Allen of Seattle, WA, Jill Gauger of Green Bay, Matthew Gauger of Green Bay, Drew Tanck of Waukesha, Kyle (Amy) Volkmann of Green Bay, Kambria Volkmann of Green Bay, Ella Volkmann of Valmy, Madilyn and Aleah Volkmann of Sturgeon Bay; seven great-grandchildren, Clayton, Caleb and Cole Peterson, Charlotte and Luci Gordon, and Sofia and Isaac Allen; and sisters-in-law, Marion Volkmann and Judy Volkmann. 

     He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Clarence, Russell, Lester, Joanne (Elton) Shine and Ruth Leitner; and great-grandson, Hope Allen. 

     Ken’s life will be honored with a funeral service held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 7, 2019 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport with Pastor Peter Lindemann officiating. 

     Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and will continue at the church on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 10:15 a.m. 

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Ken’s memory for Unity Hospice and Sevastopol Pioneer Athletic Booster Club.  

     The family is very grateful for those at the Peter and Jelaine Horton Skilled Nursing and Hospice Care Center and Unity Hospice for their heartfelt care given to Ken.
