Kelly James Hembel, 33, lifelong resident of Sturgeon Bay, flew into the stars from the comfort of his home, Friday night, May 17, 2024.
He was born June 30, 1990 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of Larry Keylo Carter and Patricia "Patty" Ann Hembel. Kelly initially attended Sunset Elementary School then T.J. Walker Middle School before attending Sturgeon Bay High School.
He was initially employed with area restaurants: McDonald's on Egg Harbor Road, then Pizza Hut, and Hot Tamales (prep and dishwashing). Kelly then started cleaning for Church Hill Inn in Sister Bay, then Bay Shipbuilding Co. in Sturgeon Bay and more recently for Above and Beyond Cleaning throughout the county.
He loved his family and friends. Kelly had an appreciation for nature and especially liked astronomy. He always wanted to fly a plane and was finally able to for his 18th birthday.
Kelly will be deeply missed by his mother, Patty; siblings, Jamie (Jeff) Krueger of Maplewood, Cory Hembel of Sturgeon Bay; nephews and nieces, Colton and Jackson Krueger, and Grayson, Alanah, and Kenley Hembel; maternal grandparents, maternal grandfather, Lester (Pam) Hembel, Jr. of Elton and Elizabeth "Betty" Michalski (Gary Sr.) Rasmusson of the Town of Forestville, other relatives; and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; niece, Olivia Krueger; uncles, Lester Hembel III, and Glen Hembel; and other relatives.
Visitation for family and friends will be held after 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Sharing of Memories to begin at 7:00 p.m. Those in attendance are encouraged to WEAR RED and/or PLAID in honor of Kelly, as red was his favorite color, and plaid was his preferred design.
Kelly will be laid to rest beside family in Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol.
