Katie Hebal Obituary

Katie Hebal, age 74, of Clark Lake, Town of Jacksonport, passed away on Saturday, January 13, 2024, surrounded by her beloved family, after bravely facing cancer with remarkable strength.

Katie's journey began in Fond du Lac, WI, where she was born to the late Howard and Barbara (Jones) Scoville. A graduate of L.P. Goodrich High School, she continued her education at U.W. Stevens Point, earning her bachelor's degree in Sociology in 1974. Katie worked as an Underwriter at Sentry Insurance in Stevens Point, retiring in the early 2000s.

After the loss of her first husband, Thomas “Tom" Hein, Katie discovered love again when she met William “Bill” Hebal in Stevens Point. They celebrated their union in marriage on July 2, 2005, at the Methodist Church in Jacksonport. Retiring together, they cherished 18 wonderful years at Clark Lake in Door County, creating lasting memories.

Katie was a woman of diverse interests and hobbies. From knitting and puzzles to being a nationally ranked Bridge player, she embraced life with enthusiasm. Her love for the outdoors led her to enjoy swimming in Clark Lake, kayaking, fishing, and playing tennis. Katie loved traveling and most recently enjoyed several cycling trips with her family and friends.

Famous for her rubber duck collection, created with the help of friends and family, it turned gift-giving into a delightful and amusing experience. Katie was also known for her phenomenal baking. Her pies and cookies were a delight to family and friends, who often suggested she turn her passion into a profession. In her 70's, she surprised everyone by showcasing her tap-dancing skills. As an active member of women's organizations, including P.E.O, Stevens Point Junior Woman’s Club, and the Jacksonport Woman’s Club, Katie showcased a deep commitment to empowering women, supporting children, and promoting education.

Katie is survived by her loving husband, Bill; children, John (Holly) Hein and Emily (Bill) Murphy; stepchildren, Jason (Christa) Hebal and Todd Hebal; grandson, Logan Hebal; brother, Jim (Dina) Scoville; and grand-dogs, Neuman, Pearl, and Priya. She is also remembered fondly by other relatives and many dear friends.

Preceded in death by her first husband, Tom Hein; parents; sister Marjorie Scoville; and beloved dog, Roxie.

The family expresses heartfelt gratitude to the staff and nurses at Door County Medical Center for their exceptional care and compassion.
