Karen M. Kasten, 73 years of Sturgeon Bay passed away Friday September 20, 2024 at the Pete and Jelaine Horton Center Skilled Nursing Facility in Sturgeon Bay.
She was born May 20, 1951 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Orville and Anita (Rex) Kasten. Karen’s family were members of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport.
Karen experienced medical hardships as a child. Despite her medical adversities, she never let it get her down. She had a great sense of humor and was never afraid to share her opinion, good or bad.
Karen attended Sevastopol High School. After finishing school, she worked at the Sunshine House the first year they opened, 1971, and continued working there for 49 years. She never wanted to miss a day of work. She would be up and dressed waiting for the bus no matter how under the weather she was. She adored her Sunshine House family and they were huge part of her life.
Karen kept busy by playing games like Kings Corner, Crazy 8 and Balloon Volleyball at the SNF. She was very competitive and did not take losing lightly. She was a huge Packer Fan and never missed watching a game. Her and her brother, Kevin were both armchair coaches constantly yelling at the TV together.
Survivors include her six siblings, Larry Kasten of Sturgeon Bay, Dale Kasten of Jacksonport, Vickie (Bob) Krueger of Florida, Jeannie Kasten of Manitowoc, Wayne (Tammy) Kasten of Egg Harbor and Kevin (Kimberly) Kasten of Sturgeon Bay; and her dear nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; nephew, Christopher Kasten; and her aunt, Verna DeMeuse.
Family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff at the Pete and Jelaine Horton Center Skilled Nursing Facility. They did an excellent job caring for her and providing so many activities that Karen loved.
