John Wehausen Obituary

John Edward Wehausen, 96, of Carlsville, was called Home to be with the Lord and was reunited with his wife, Kay, Friday night, January 10, 2025 with family at his side.

He was born December 19, 1928 in Forestville, the son of Herman and Mary (Long) Wehausen. John grew up attending St. Mary's Catholic Church in Maplewood (now Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church) and Corpus Christi Catholic Church and School in Sturgeon Bay.

John enlisted to serve his country with the United States Marines and proudly served during the Korean War. Following active duty, he served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves. He retired from the Milwaukee Police Department after working 35 years as a motorcycle police officer.

On September 8, 1956, John married the love of his life, Kay Frances Sorenson, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. They were blessed with four children and shared over 56 years of marriage. John was a former member of St. Bernadette Catholic Parish and Corpus Christi Catholic Parish (both on the northwest side of Milwaukee).

No matter where he went, he ran into people he knew and he was always up for a game of cribbage. John also enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Door County and Milwaukee. He lived a life that reflected his values of God, family, and country.

John will be missed by his loving family: children, Craig (Peggy) of Germantown, Todd of Milwaukee, and Lori (David) Pesch of Mount Pleasant, grandchildren, Chad (Morgan), Stephanie, Samantha, Brittany, Sarah, Makayla, Hannah, and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Cameron, Ava, and Connor; sisters-in-law, Loretta Wehausen, Mary Lou Wehausen, and Mary (Ronald) Tanck; in addition to many nieces and nephews; friends and family in Milwaukee and Door County.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Kay; son, Kevin; daughter-in-law, Jodi; siblings, William, Herbert, Alvin (Shirley), Oscar, Florence (Alvin) DeMarb, and Marie (Glade Brown; Arthur Nielson); parents-in-law, Cecil and Frances (nee Bochek) Sorenson; and other relatives.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 110 N. 5th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with Fr. Matthew Rappl and Fr. Anthony Birdsall concelebrating. John will be laid to rest in St. Joseph Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol, beside his wife, Kay; and son, Kevin. Military Honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:40 a.m.

Memorials may be given in John's name for the Alzheimer's Association - Wisconsin Chapter (www.alz.org/wi).
