John Sawdo Obituary

John Allen Sawdo, age 84 of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, at Sturgeon Bay Health Services with his family by his side.

He was born on February 28, 1941, to the late Harry and Mabel (Tollman) Sawdo in Sturgeon Bay. John graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1959. After high school, John enlisted and proudly served in the United States Army from March 13, 1962, until he was honorably discharged on March 1, 1965. He worked for Sturgeon Bay Utilities as a Lineman and a Wastewater Operator after Sturgeon Bay Utilities divided the electricity and water divisions. He retired after 40 years of service at the utility companies.

John was united in marriage to Nancy Lou Long on August 20, 1966, by Rev. Myron J. Medin at Bay View Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.

He had an affection for motorcycles. John loved to ride his Harley with friends and family. He was one of the founding members of the Door Devils Motorcycle Club in Sturgeon Bay. He also enjoyed watching motorcycle races. One of his favorite races was at the AMA National Flat Track in Peoria, IL.

John also enjoyed woodworking in his basement and helping his family with any "fix it" projects. He was always there when someone was in need. He loved his goldens and his miniature poodle. Most of all he loved his family and will be deeply missed.

The Sawdo family would like to extend a special thank you to Sturgeon Bay Health Services, Compassus Hospice and staff for their kindness and compassion.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy; son, Eric Sawdo (special friend Susan); granddaughter, Kiana Sawdo; daughter-in-law, Stacy (Craig) Wodack; nephew, John; nieces, Peggy, Valarie, and Karen; sister-in-law, Karen (Bill) Smith; brother-in-law, Gary Long; and his golden, Murphy and miniature poodle, Jade. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Sawdo; and siblings, Harry Sawdo, Lois Renier, and Phyllis Loresch; parents-in-law, Wilmer and Viola Long; and brother-in-law, Donnie Long.
