Jeanne Klessig-Lattimer, 91, of Sturgeon Bay passed away Monday, June 17, 2024 at Pine Crest Village surrounded by her family.
She was born February 10, 1933 at home in the Town of Sevastopol the daughter of the late Louis and Helena (Simon) Werkheiser. Jeanne learned to play guitar at an early age from the gentleman down the road and never read music but went to the beat of the song. She started playing publicly in her early teens. Jeanne loved music, especially country, and was proud to have performed throughout the state of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan with various groups including “Resistance” and “BJ’s Trio”. Some of the group members were her brother, Ken Werkheiser, Curly Reynolds and Bill Jorgenson.
On October 21, 1950 she married Merton William Klessig at S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Institute. He passed on June 26, 1991. On December 26, 1995 she married Donald Lattimer, and he preceded her in death in October of 1996.
Jeanne worked for 27 years at Piggly Wiggly in Sturgeon Bay and Algoma. Later in life, Jeanne was a happy greater at Walmart in Sturgeon Bay.
Music and family were her life. She loved country music and Willie Nelson. Jeanne also enjoyed traveling in her motorhome.
Surviving family include her seven children, Barbara (John) May of Forestville, Larry (Helen) Klessig of Dagget, MI, Joseph Klessig of Wheat Ridge, CO, Lisa (Rick) Gerhart of Sturgeon Bay, John Klessig of Las Vegas, NV, Karen (Bruce) Townsend of Sturgeon Bay, Kim (Mike) Bogenschutz of Egg Harbor; six granddaughters, Jennifer DuPont, Jessica Klessig, Tara (Travis Englebert) Neuville, Jodi (Anthony) Lee, Olivia Bogenschutz, Emelia Bogenschutz; two great-grandchildren, Dylan and Makayla; and Paul Lockwood (who she thought of as a son-in-law), of Tomahawk, WI.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Louis and Helena Werkheiser; husbands, Merton Klessig and Donald Lattimer; daughter, Kristine Klessig; two brothers, Douglas and Kenneth Werkheiser; and sister, Catherine Ann Kaczmarek.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with a Service of Remembrance to be held at 6:30 p.m. with Rev. Peter Mannoja celebrating. Burial will be in S.S. Peter & Paul Catholic Cemetery.
