Jacqueline Simonar Obituary

Jacqueline Florence Simonar, 21, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away at home Friday morning, August 14, 2020 surrounded by her family.

She was born August 2, 1999 in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of Mark Edward Simonar and Michelle Ann (Sauermilch) Simonar. Jacqueline loved going to school, learning and being with friends and teachers even through fighting cancer and taking treatments. Her determination to live life despite cancer showed when, three days after major invasive surgery, she was able to walk the stage at her graduation and receive her diploma from Southern Door High School in 2017, “because I earned it,” she said.

Jacqueline was employed at Tadych’s Econo Foods in Sturgeon Bay and was a familiar, smiling face at the checkouts there.

She was on the Econo bowling team, loved reading, escape rooms, travel, and most of all, being outdoors. Jacqueline was on the Southern Door Racing Crew. She enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, and being anywhere there were animals. Jacqueline loved her dog and companion, Cisco, a Pit/Lab/Mastiff mix, or “Plastiff” was what she classified his breed as.

She will be missed by her dog, Cisco; mother, Michelle Simonar of Sturgeon Bay; father, Mark Simonar of the Town of Sevastopol; two sisters, Danielle and Samantha Simonar; maternal grandparents, Doug and Diane Sauermilch of Manitowoc; paternal grandfather, Bernard “Bernie” Simonar of the Town of Sevastopol; many dear cousins; aunts and uncles; great-aunts and great-uncles; and many, many dear friends.

Jacqueline was preceded in death by her grandmother, Marian Simonar.

A celebration of her life will be announced in the future.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her memory to her family.

“Our family would like to thank all those who stood with us throughout this three-plus-year journey.  Thank you to her school community, students and teachers, those who helped with fundraisers, and her friends and Econo Foods family, whose love and support were appreciated and will never be forgotten.”

The poem, “What Cancer Cannot Do” was especially true in Jacqueline’s life:

Cancer is so limited...
It cannot cripple love.
It cannot shatter hope.
It cannot corrode faith.
It cannot eat away peace.
It cannot destroy confidence.
It cannot kill friendship.
It cannot shut out memories.
It cannot silence courage.
It cannot reduce eternal life.
It cannot quench the Spirit.
