Henry "Chuck" Hagmann

     Henry Charles “Chuck” Hagmann, 78, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at his home surrounded by his beloved wife of 53 years, Leslie Parmentier Hagmann and his two children, Christian Laird Hagmann of Woodstock, IL and Ashley Hagmann Cooley of Sturgeon Bay, WI.

     Chuck was born and raised in Sturgeon Bay, January 26, 1945, the second son of Dr. Henry Charles Hagmann and Ramona Stewart Bailey. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1963, during which time he met the love of his life, Leslie Parmentier at age 16 and later married in 1967.

     Upon graduation from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1963, Chuck enlisted in the Army where he earned a degree from the United States Army Signal Corps in New Jersey and received a top-secret crypto security clearance. He was then assigned to Strategic Communications Command-South in Panama and began his work in crypto cyphering. Upon discharge in 1969, Chuck attended UW Stevens Point and graduated, with a degree in Economics, as well as the first degree offered in Computer Science.

     Chuck spent a lot of his working life in airports and cities throughout the U.S. Never to be one to sit back and do nothing, he would scout out the city and later return with Leslie to discover with her all the wonderful nuances of each new place; New York, Hershey, PA, Boardwalk, NJ, Long Island Racetrack, Puerto Rico, Panama, Hilton Head, Charleston, Daytona Beach, Sturgis, Phoenix, Grand Canyon, San Francisco, Seattle, Mt Rushmore and the list goes on. Chuck was well respected and liked in his industry and after a long and distinguished career, he retired in 2010, from FISERV.

     He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and boating but most of all, he loved to entertain, cook and have a good time. He built duck blinds on his shoreline, which led to an annual “Dead Duck Dinner,” a culinary experience he prepared for his family and friends. He would take his kids and friends fishing on Lake Michigan for “the big one” at 4 a.m. with a full cooler of food, drink and fun provided. Anything to do with the beach and water was his joy, whether he was pulling the kids tubing, anchoring and swimming in Lake Michigan, lunches at local marinas, cruising the DC shoreline or jet skiing. Always a fun adventure was to be had and explored with Chuck. The consummate host, whether it was an elaborate tailgate at a Packers game, gourmet dinners he prepared or a beautiful day on the beach, in his cabanas, with his signature cocktails. There was never a half-full glass to be found or a laugh not to be had.

     Chuck was happiest being at his home in Sturgeon Bay. He grew up there, retired there, and died there. He always enjoyed life and made it fun for everyone, especially his grandchildren. His 4-year-old granddaughter, after going to the grocery store with her “Poppie” said it best “I will go anywhere with him!”

     He will be missed by his wife, Leslie and their children, Laird (Ande) Hagmann and Ashley Hagmann Cooley; four grandchildren, Kylie and Logan Hagmann, Finnegan and Rowan Cooley; brother, R. Stuart (Judy) Hagmann; brother-in-law, Jules (Kathy) Parmentier, several nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his brother-in-law Robert (Chip) Parmentier and his son-in-law, Eric Thomas Cooley.

     His life will be celebrated with a visitation for family and friends, on Friday, September 1, 2023 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI.
