Gerhardt Brungraber Obituary

Gerhardt "Gary" Arthur Brungraber, age 82 of Shawano and formerly of Carlsville, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at St. Vincents Hospital with his family by his side.

He was born on October 17, 1942, to the late Arthur and Mildred (Kuehn) Brungraber in Sturgeon Bay. Gary was a 1961 graduate of Sevastopol High School. After high school, Gary enlisted and served in the United States Army as a Radio Teletype Operator from 1964 - 1966.

Gary was united in marriage to Margaret Louise Nelson on January 14, 1967, at St. Peter's Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay.  The couple was blessed with three children, Brenda, Keith, and Kevin. The couple lived in Carlsville until a little over 20 years ago where they moved and made Shawano their home. They would still make the journey back to Door County to attend regular church services at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. Throughout the years, Gary was a truck driver and worked for several companies. He retired from Swift Transportation in his late 60's.

Gary had a love for old cars, his favorite one was his 1957 Mercury Montclair that he enjoyed driving around. His love for cars also extended to watching his youngest son race on the dirt tracks. Video recording events and giving the recorded copies to his family was also a favorite past time of his. There were many family functions that Gary made sure to capture special moments for the ones he loved. Most of all Gary deeply loved and adored his wife Margaret and treasured the time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

Gary will always be known for his smile that lit up a room and his kindness he extended to everyone he met. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

The Brungraber family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at St. Vincent for their exceptional care and compassion.

Gary is survived by his wife Margaret of 58 years; children Brenda (Tracy) Steever, Keith (Shirley) Brungraber, and Kevin (significant other, Tanya Bub) Brungraber; grandchildren, Dakota (Connie) Steever, Ashleigh (Robert) Oerline, Curtis Brungraber, Jake Brungraber, and Derrick (Emily) Brungraber; great grandchild, Braxton; brothers, Wayne (Bev) Brungraber, Randy (Sue) Brungraber, and Rick (Sherri) Brungraber; sisters-in-law, Kathy Brungraber, Cindy Brungraber, and Barbara Obernberger ; brothers-in-law,  Steve Custer, Gerald (Anna) Nelson, and Leland (Agnes) Nelson.
