George Edwin Emmerich, 98, of the Town of Sturgeon Bay died early Thursday morning, February 5, 2026 at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay.

He was born October 30, 1927 in Mosinee, WI, the son of Edwin Anton Emmerich and Anna Elisabeth (Butt) Emmerich. George graduated from Mosinee High School and went on to study Conservation Education at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point where he earned his bachelor's degree.

He was drafted to serve his country with the United States Army on January 10, 1951. George was an airplane and helicopter mechanic and was honorably discharged from the Army on January 9, 1953.

He returned home and worked as a mechanic with his brother, Alex. George played semi-pro football in Wausau for the Wausau Muskies.

He met Margaret Jane Jones, who was a teacher at Bowler High School. They were united in marriage the following year on July 17, 1954 at Wild Rose Presbyterian Church. Together, George and Margaret owned and operated Emmerich Floral in Mosinee. He was an insurance agent with the Prudential Insurance Company for over 10 years.

George was a Conservation Resource teacher at Southern Door High School. He went on to earn a Master of Science degree in Agriculture Education from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1972.

He and Margaret were longtime members of the Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church. George was raised as a Master Mason on July 9, 1951. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Mosinee and Sturgeon Bay. In 1970, he served as Worshipful Master of the Henry S. Baird Lodge #174. He was a Past Patron of the Honor Chapter #1 Order of the Eastern Star in Sturgeon Bay.

George was a true outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. For over 30 years, he and Margaret spent the winter months in New Smyrna Beach, FL.

George and Margaret were blessed with over 66 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on September 21, 2020.

George is survived by his children, Ann (Steve Ofenbeck) Emmerich of the Town of Sturgeon Bay, Kay (Kurt) Scott of Peshtigo, Margaret "Peggy" Haddle of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and Joel (Carri) Emmerich of Green Bay and family friend, Lewis Haddle; and grandchildren, Nancy (Alex) Scibelli-Bouthilet and Neal (Erin) Scibelli, Andrew "Drew" (Sarah) Scott, Matthew Scott, and Alison Scott, Kenneth "K.C." (Shelly) Middleton, and Christina (Jesse) Lindauer and Daniel Emmerich; great-grandchildren, Felix, Luc and Carmen, Theodore and Abraham, Noah and Quinn, Charlotte, Jason, and Samuel, and Abigail and Landon. George is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Bernard Alberg and David Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alex, Walton, James, and Reinhold and sisters, Grace, Evelyn and Marie.

Visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with Order of the Eastern Star and Masonic services to conclude the evening at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue at Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church on Saturday, February 21. 2026 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at Sturgeon Bay United Methodist Church, 836 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235 with Rev. David Leistra officiating. Military honors by the United States Army and V.F.W. Post #3088 will follow at the church.

The memorial service will be recorded (non-live) and eventually uploaded to the "Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC" Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HuehnsFuneralHome).

George will be laid to rest beside his wife, Margaret, in Shiloh Moravian Cemetery in the Town of Sturgeon Bay.
