Gail McCormick Obituary

Gail Ann McCormick, age 88 of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in De Pere, with her family by her side.

She was born October 28, 1936, to the late George and Lois (Charbonneau) Gross in Superior, Wisconsin.

She graduated from Superior Cathedral High School in 1954. Gail graduated from Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wisconsin with a bachelor's degree in liberal arts. She taught in the Sturgeon Bay School district for over 30 years, teaching elementary art.

On August 13, 1960, Gail was united in marriage to Richard Joseph McCormick at Christ the King Catholic Church in Superior, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2022. Together they raised their five children.

Gail was a devout Catholic who was active at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. She had a strong faith and believed in the power of prayer, whether it was praying the rosary daily and prayers for her family and friends.

Gail loved her family and put them first. They were her life. She enjoyed spending time with them and making special blankets and cross-stitched projects for everyone.

She enjoyed playing games, especially cards. Playing Pinochle, Five Crown, Sevens, Skip-Bo, and Play Nine. This was one of her favorite ways to spend more time with her family.

The McCormick family would like to thank the staff at Rennes Health and Rehab Center in De Pere for their exceptional care of Gail.

Surviving family include her five children, Linda (Rod) Scheuer of Mishicot, Laurie (Marc) Bertram of La Crosse, Richard Jr. (Jennifer) of New River, AZ, Thomas "Tom" (Ann) of Neshotah, WI, Kelly (Rock) Kostka of Algoma; twelve grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; sister Sandra (Tom) Henning; and one brother, George Jr. (Dianna) Gross.

Preceding her in death was her beloved husband, Richard of 61 years, and her parents.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, June 27, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Matthew Rappl as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at church from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
