December 20, 1905 ~ May 1, 2002 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Frederick Meyer Obituary

     Frederick John Meyer, 96 years, a lifelong resident of Fond du Lac and presently a resident of Rocky Knoll Health Care Center in Plymouth, died there on Wednesday, May 01, 2002 after a lengthy illness.

 

     Fred was born on December 20, 1905 in Fond du Lac, the son of the late Ernst and Mary (Reschke) Meyer.  He was baptized, confirmed and married at Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church in Fond du Lac.  He attended Cleveland Elementary School and Washington Jr. High.  He graduated from Fond du Lac Vocational School in 1923.  On October 16, 1923 he began his apprenticeship at Giddings  & Lewis, retiring as a supervisor of the Davis Division on June 30, 1969 after 45 years of employment.  At that time he was employed at the G & L Shooting Preserve in Eden for many years.

 

     On October 16, 1928 he married Ethel M. Corrigan in Fond du Lac.  She preceded him in death on July 3, 1982 after 53 years of marriage. 

 

     Fred was a member of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church and over the years he served in many capacities, holding offices and serving on committees.  He had been a member of the G & L Staff Club and G & L Oldsters; AARPS, Sunrise Kiwanis, Fond du Lac Seniors, Rolling Meadows Golf League and the Tuesday Bowling.   He had been a volunteer at the Senior Center, Guide at the Galloway House, and a Peer Counselor at St. Agnes Hospital.  In 1991 he was voted one of the “Senior Citizens of the Year” and featured in the Fond du Lac Reporter as a “Volunteer of the Year” (1991).  Fred was an avid golfer, bowler, gardener and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

 

     He is survived by three sons, Donald F. (Helen) Meyer and Gerald J. (Elaine) Meyer, both of Fond du Lac, Glenn E. (Linda) Meyer of West Allis;  one daughter, Janet (Wayne) Huehns of Sheboygan Falls;  18 grandchildren;  29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Evelyn Leu of Fond du Lac; and one sister-in-law, Ella (Clarence) Everard of Lena, Wisconsin.

 

     He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, one sister, Edith Grahl; one nephew, Ron Leu and one niece, Marion Domenget.

 

     Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2002  at  11:00 a.m. at Mach Funeral Chapel in Fond du Lac with Rev. Douglas Hedman, pastor of Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran Church , officiating.  Entombment will be made in the Shrine of Rest Chapel Mausoleum in the Town of Empire.

 

     Friends may call at Mach Funeral Chapel on Friday from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m.

 

   A memorial fund will be established in his name for Immanuel-Trinity Lutheran  Church Building Fund.
