Evelyn F. Bashaw

     Evelyn Florence Bashaw, 85, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home to be with the Lord, Saturday night, February 11, 2023 at Waterfall Health of Algoma (formerly Algoma Long Term Care).

     She was born Eva Fern Dohms on January 18, 1938 in Howard, Wisconsin to Shirley and Iris (Thalacker) Dohms. Evelyn was adopted and raised by Otto Louis Kuehn, Jr. and Florence Pauline (Spredeman) Kuehn of Door County. Evelyn grew up attending St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy where she was confirmed. She attended Sevastopol High School.

     She completed classes to become a CNA and worked at Holy Family Hospital in Manitowoc. She worked other various jobs until marrying Jerry L. Bashaw on November 3, 1973 in Iowa and shared eight years of marriage before Jerry passed away in 1982.

     Over the years, Evelyn lived in Mishicot, Two Rivers, Manitowoc, and Sturgeon Bay. She moved into Algoma Long Term Care nearly four years ago, following an injury at home in Sturgeon Bay.

     Evelyn’s faith provided a foundation for her life. Living on her own, she attended church with friends and family. Evelyn was presently a member of St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. She was an avid reader with the Amish book series being among her favorites for her fiction. Many of Evelyn’s book collections were donated to the library at St. Peter’s. She was a very organized person; everything was in its place at home, especially her coins, which she always separated out. Evelyn loved watching the birds from her apartment in Sturgeon Bay. Family often joked that her favorite channel was the weather channel since the weather radar was always on her television.

     Evelyn will be missed by her daughters, Catherine Vogel of Savannah, GA and Sandra (Jeffry) Gosser of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Paul Vogel, Kristopher (Rena) Gosser, and Amanda (Matthew) Stephenson; great-grandchildren, Willow, Whitney, Lylah, Evan, Kylee; Deprey stepchildren, Ronald, Steven, Charles, Susan, and Edward; Bashaw stepchildren, Kit, Christine, Cassandra, and Teresa;  siblings, Richard (Laura) Kuehn, William Kuehn, Kenneth Kuehn, Patricia (Joe) Casey, and Ruth “Patty” (Tom) Schmidt; and other relatives.

     She was preceded in death by her biological parents, Shirley and Iris Dohms; parents who raised her, Otto and Florence (Spredeman) Kuehn, Jr.; former spouses, Orville Dietrich, Edward Deprey, and Jerry Bashaw; her infant daughter, Donna Mae Dietrich; siblings, Russell Kuehn, Darlene Kuehn, and Theresa (Arnold) Haberli; and other relatives.

     A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay with Pastor Carl Schroeder officiating.

     Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 10:50 a.m.

     Evelyn will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery in Manitowoc with a graveside committal at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 20, 2023.

     Memorials may be given in Evelyn’s name for St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church (108 W. Maple Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235).
