Elizabeth "Betty" Stanecki Obituary

Elizabeth “Betty” (Gauger) Stanecki, 86, of Sturgeon Bay passed away Wednesday, August 18, 2021.

She was born in Fish Creek, the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Ahrens) Gauger and graduated from Gibraltar High School in 1952. She moved to Milwaukee where she met Norbert Stanecki. They married at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee on September 17, 1955. Norbert (Norb) preceded her in death in 2005. Betty worked at Johnson Controls until they were expecting their daughter, Doreen. She later worked for Layton Avenue Cleaners for more than 25 years. In 1995 Norb had a stroke and Betty cared for him until he passed.

Betty was an active member of St. Roman’s Catholic Church in Milwaukee and Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. She was involved with St. Anne’s Society and helped with many funeral lunches.

She was a caregiver to her husband and sister in-law for many years. When she wasn’t taking care of others she enjoyed her flower gardens, mowing the lawn, and playing bingo at church.  In true Wisconsin fashion Betty loved playing, dancing and listening to polka music.

Her family includes her daughter, Doreen (John) McCarthy of Parrish, FL; granddaughter Meaghan of Tampa FL; two sister-in-laws, Angeline “Angie” Gauger, and Esther Gauger of Sturgeon Bay. Along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents William and Elizabeth Gauger, husband Norb; two sisters, Emily (Alfred) Spittlemeister, Dorothy (Norbert) Sawyer; four brothers: Reginald (Reg) Gauger, Harvey (Lois) Gauger, Orville (Orv) (Eunice) Gauger and Chester (Chet) Gauger.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, August 27, 2021 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Ryan Krueger, Fr. Anthony Birdsall, and Deacon Mark Hibbs officiating with burial immediately following at Bayside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass at 11:30 a.m.

The family would like to thank Dr. Richard Hogan, Sturgeon Bay Health Services and all the professionals for the love and care they gave Betty.
