Duane Benjamin Pahl, age 85, of Sturgeon Bay and formerly of Menasha and Kaukauna, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Serenity Spring at Scandia Village, Sister Bay.
He was born on July 29, 1940, to the late Benjamin and Marie (Hurst) Pahl at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton, Wisconsin. Duane was a proud 1958 graduate of Kaukauna High School.
He was united in marriage to Suzanne Vandenberg, and together they were blessed with three children: Cari, Craig, and Dean. After going their separate ways, Duane married Joan (Reitzner) Brost in 1984. They shared 37 years together until Joan's passing on September 21, 2021.
Duane was a lifelong sports enthusiast, especially devoted to the Milwaukee Brewers-rarely missing a game, his sister Joann faithfully kept him updated on the Brewers schedule, and his family made sure the nursing home staff had each game noted so he could continue cheering on his team. He was also a loyal Green Bay Packers fan.
In his younger years, Duane enjoyed golf, bowling, and throughout his life he found joy in fishing Wisconsin's lakes, rivers, and streams for his favorite panfish. He also loved playing cribbage and sheepshead with family and friends, creating many treasured memories around the card table. In his later years, he and Joan also enjoyed going to the casino and then a good dinner and a martini or two at Michiel's Bar and Grill.
The Pahl family extends heartfelt gratitude to Bob Brost for his faithful care of Duane following Joan's passing, to his Menasha neighbor Ann for always tending to the yardwork and shoveling, to Amber and the staff at Pine Crest Village Assisted Living in Sturgeon Bay for their exceptional care and kindness, and the staff at Serenity Spring at Scandia Village for their care of Duane.
Duane is survived by his sons, Craig (Pam) Pahl and their children, Ben (Kelsey) Pahl and Ashley (Matthew) Herman; Dean (Connie) Pahl and their daughter, Emma; grandchildren Crystal (Chang Vang) Geurts, Brandon Bowers, and Dylan Bowers; and great-grandchildren Kayden, Greyson, Remington, Bennett, and Averie. He is also survived by his brother, Bruce Pahl; sister, Joann Hamilton; and brother-in-law, Bob Hoffmann; by Joan's children and grandchildren: Lori Brost; Bob (Kathy) Brost and their children Allyse (Steve) Panaro and Trevor (Jessie) Brost; and Shari (Eric) Schmidt and their children Terra (Ariana) Hoewisch, Taylor (Brandi) Schmidt, and Colin (Alejandra); and sister-in-law, Carla (Reitzner) Oudenhoven and her family; and brother-in-law, Chuck Reitzner and his family. Duane is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, of 37 years, Joan; his daughter, Cari Pahl; siblings, Ron Pahl and Sharon Hoffmann; and brother-in-law, Chuck Hamilton.
A private family memorial service will be held at Highland Memorial Park, where Duane will be laid to rest beside Joan. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.HuehnsFuneralHome.com.
