Douglas Krauel Obituary

Douglas Allen Krauel, 63, of Monument Point Road, Sturgeon Bay, fell asleep in the loving arms of his family at home and awoke in the arms of the Lord on Saturday, July 25, 2020 following a 15-month battle with cancer.

He was born in Sturgeon Bay on December 10, 1956, the son of the late William Earl Krauel and Shirley Ann (Bittorf) Krauel. Doug attended Carlsville School and graduated from Sevastopol High School with the class of 1975.  On June 25, 1977, he married Debra Lou Werkheiser at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Institute. They had just celebrated 43 years of marriage. Doug loved spending time in the woods and hunting. Deer hunting with his wife, Debra, sons, and grandsons was his “vacation time” each fall.

Doug worked for Bay Shipbuilding Co. in Sturgeon Bay from 1977 to 1989 as an Outside Machinist. He also worked for Institute Motors for numerous years before building and operating Monument Point Camping in 1995 with his wife and sons.

Doug was an avid NASCAR fan – always a “Ford Man”.

He will be deeply missed by his soulmate, Debra; two sons, Travis (fiancée Kelly) and Trent (Kelsey); three grandchildren, Dominic, Kevin, and Kallie Krauel; four siblings,  Sandy (Keith) Werkheiser, Steve (Pam) Krauel, Deb (Calvin) Simon, and Tom (Jeri) Krauel; along with cherished nieces and nephews; cousins; other relatives; and friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William and Alma (Sternard) Krauel and maternal grandparents, Fred and Vivian (Monica) Bittorf; parents, Earl and Shirley Krauel; brother-in-law, Tony Lehman; and other relatives.

In accordance with Doug’s wishes, no services will be held.

Memorials may be given in Doug’s memory to DOOR CANcer, Inc. or to his family.

Huehns Funeral Home, Inc. & Door County Crematory LLC in Sturgeon Bay are assisting the family. Expressions of sympathy, memories, and photos of Doug may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com.
