Donald "Don" Lockhart Obituary

Donald "Don" Earl Lockhart, age 90 of Sturgeon Bay, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Cardinal Ridge Residential Care in Sturgeon Bay, and is now in his heavenly home with Jesus.

He was born on March 15, 1934, in Kewaunee to the late Ernest and Vella Helene (Richter) Lockhart of Washington Island. Don is a 1952 graduate of Washington Island High School. After high school, Don enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and served from 1952-1956. During this time, he was stationed on the lighthouses of the Great Lakes. Standard Rock Lighthouse on Lake Superior and Plum Island Lighthouse on Lake Michigan were two of his primary posts during his service.

On May 31, 1958, Don was united in marriage to Elaine Emilie Busse at the Sawyer Methodist church of Sturgeon Bay.

After his enlistment was over, Don worked in radio broadcasting at stations located in Sturgeon Bay, Chicago, and Sheboygan. In Sheboygan he pursued his interest in law enforcement and became a police officer for the city of Sheboygan. He proudly served his community for 29 years and retired from the Sheboygan Police department in 1993. Don continued in law enforcement as a part time Door County Sherrif's Deputy during the summer months on Washington Island. He was able to work and enjoy his summers with his wife, where they spent the last 30 years during the summer months. A pilot, Don enjoyed his hobby of flying small planes throughout his life.

Don was a marksman and loved pistol target shooting which resulted in an impressive collection of trophies, ribbons, and awards. Winning the Wisconsin State Police Pistol Championship three times. He was also very talented musically. He was glad to give God glory as he played the trumpet with gusto and sang bass for the church choirs, gospel quartets, and as a soloist. Don loved going out early for breakfast and enjoyed the camaraderie he found at his favorite restaurants.

Don is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Elaine; children, Laurie Fischer of Arkansas, Timothy Lockhart of Florida, and Teresa Lockhart of Sturgeon Bay; grandchildren, Craig Fischer, Jacob Fischer, Keegan Lockhart, and Kyle Lockhart; nine great grandchildren; and sister, Donna (Gordon) Jorgenson of Illinois. Don is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents.
