Donald A. Maass, 82, formerly of Institute, Sturgeon Bay, now of Green Bay, passed away Wednesday August 27, 2025 at Aurora Bay Care Medical Center after a 12-year battle with Parkinson's.
He was born June 14, 1943 in Monroe, WI the son of the late Otto and Bessie (Kuhl) Maass. Don graduated from Albany High School. On October 10, 1964, he married Judy M. McNamer in Evansville, WI. Don worked for Peterson Grocery in Brodhead, WI and Woodman's Grocery in Madison retiring in 1999. In 2001 he and Judy retired to Door County where they built their home in 2002.
Don enjoyed being outdoors every day. He liked fishing and especially gardening around his home. He was a member of Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport.
Surviving family include his devoted wife, Judy; three dear children, Michael (Brenda) Maass of Deerfield, Renee (David) Schleicher of Sturgeon Bay, Susan (Scott) Heinrich of Green Bay; four granddaughters, Brayden Maass, Piersen Maass, Emma Schleicher, and Danielle Schleicher; sister, Nancy Spooner of Evansville, WI; nephews, James (Luann) Sandlin of Monticello, WI, Joe (Dianne) Sandlin of Brodhead, WI, and Jeremy (Jodie) Sandlin of Dixon, IL; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Otto and Bessie Maass; son, Steven (1971); sister, Lillian (Eugene) Sandlin; brother-in-law, Judson Spooner; and nephew, John Sandlin.
Visitation will take place at Huehns Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 6. Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. with a light lunch to follow.
