Dianne Marie Coopman

On June 10, 2024, Dianne Marie Coopman was called home to the Lord. Dianne’s death brings her peace and comfort after a stoic nearly four-year struggle following the grief of losing her beloved husband, Ben, in August 2020, the loneliness and isolation of a pandemic with her family hundreds and thousands of miles away, the sadness of being the part of a generation where the news of the passing of friends and family is all too frequent, and finally the betrayal of her own body which, with age and this emotional toll, became more frail and unforgiving with each passing day.  But, through the mercy and grace of God, she is renewed.

She is also now reunited with her parents, Clifford and Alice, her older brother, Rodger, her dear sister-in-law, Carol, and her beloved niece, Toni, who each predeceased her. She leaves now to grieve her, her eldest and cherished brother Tom, her brother-in-law and dear friend, Dan, her sister-in-law, Carol and her husband Paul, sister-in-law Kathy and her husband Don, and brother-in-law Chuck and his wife Laura. Dianne loved, and was loved by, many cousins, both alive and passed. Dianne had a special place in her heart for each of her nieces and nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. Her grandniece Charlotte was especially precious to her.

Dianne also leaves behind many dear friends, old and new, from childhood, the various cities in which she and Ben lived, the churches to which they belonged, and the places to which they traveled. They are too numerous to name, but especially near to Dianne were their closest and best friends Joan and Steve. May memories with Dianne live on always.

Dianne was born in 1951 in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and died in the city in which she was born, but she led a full life in many places during the 72 years in between. She largely grew up in Monona, Wisconsin, the youngest of three children, before attending the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where she met and married Ben. Shortly thereafter they moved to San Francisco, but only a few short years later moved back to Wisconsin, raising their family first in the Fox Valley and later in Walworth County. While in Walworth County, Dianne proudly finished her collegiate studies and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1996. Throughout her life she chose to pursue varied career paths and worked in many fields, meeting many people, in many industries. She was always centered by her immediate family, however, which was her north star.

And it is that immediate family that will miss her the most. Shattered by her loss, but blessed to have had her as a strong, often stubborn, but always enduring figure in their lives are Dianne’s daughter Amy and her husband Rick, her son Andrew and his partner Jen, and her only grandchild, Nathaniel, who Dianne treasured beyond words.

The family asks that you love one another, and never take any day with each other for granted. We also ask that in lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Door County Maritime Museum or to the Wisconsin Humane Society (Door County or Green Bay Campus). Both of these organizations were very near and dear to Dianne’s heart.

Dianne’s life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 110 N. 5th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, WI 52435 with Fr. Robert Stegmann as celebrant. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass.
