Darlene S. Krauel, 73, of Carlsville (Sturgeon Bay), was called home to heaven early Sunday morning, September 12, 2021, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, following unexpected complications from surgery three weeks prior.
She was born February 4, 1948, in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Verner Joseph Gillick and Jeanette Mary (Pigeon) Gillick. Darlene attended Southern Door High School. A chance meeting of her husband, Darreld, led to a whirlwind romance, and they were married April 22, 1967 by Rev. Baganz at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay. She raised her three children and worked in housekeeping, most notably for the Alpine Resort in Egg Harbor for 14 years, and Harbor Village Resort in Carlsville where she managed the housekeeping staff.
Darlene was a member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy. She enjoyed flower gardening around the home and crocheting in her free time. She and Darreld were Minnesota Viking fans since Darreld’s days in the United States Army.
Surviving family are her husband, Darreld; three children, Joe Krauel, Jen Krauel, and James Krauel, all of Carlsville; two grandchildren, Jeffery and Kaitlin Krauel.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Verner, and Jeanette Gillick; two sisters, Mary Ann Logerquist and Kathleen Beno.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 2, 2021 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy with Rev. Benjamin Enstad officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday evening, October 1, 2021 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay and at the church, Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 a.m. A devotion will be held at 7:00 p.m., Friday evening, at the funeral home.
