Clifford Frederick Teich

     Clifford Frederick Teich, formerly of the Town of Egg Harbor, passed away early Sunday morning, May 23, 2021 at Algoma Long Term Care.

     He was born February 15, 1929 in Sturgeon Bay, the son of John O. Teich, Jr. and Minnie A. (Meyer) Teich. Cliff was baptized at St. Peter’s Ev. Lutheran Church in Sturgeon Bay and attended grade school in Jacksonport. He was united in marriage to Bettyann Mae Weiterman at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Valmy in 1950.

     Cliff started working for Allis-Chalmers in West Allis soon after he and Bettyann were married, and together they lived and raised their family in Milwaukee/West Allis area. He initially began as a crane operator and eventually became a machinist. Cliff was employed with Allis-Chalmers for over 35 years. Upon his “retirement” in 1986, he returned to Door County when he and Bettyann moved to Washington Island, where Cliff went to work for the landfill and recycling facility. His father had property on the Island since the 1960s, and Cliff and Bettyann decided to build a retirement home there, where they enjoyed the Island Life for 12 wonderful years. He enjoyed fishing and visiting with family and friends at “church” (the various bars on the island). In 1998, he and Bettyann moved inland to Tart Cherry Lane in the Town of Egg Harbor, just north of Carlsville off State Highway 42 where he started working for the town recycling center.    

     Cliff and Bettyann were blessed with over 55 years of marriage. She preceded him in death on November 10, 2005. Cliff remained at home until 2018 when he moved into local care facilities. He went to live at Algoma Long Term Care at the end of December in 2019.

     Cliff was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing on Wind Lake (southwest of Milwaukee) and then in Door County on Clark Lake and ice fishing anywhere on Washington Island. He also enjoyed (deer) hunting and tinkering in his workshop on any of his various projects.

     Cliff will be missed by his children, Jim (Judy) Teich of West Allis, Wendy (Jeff) Mittlestadt of Crivitz, Cindy Teich of Cedarburg, Sally (John) Skowronski of Milwaukee, Mary (Dave) DeGeorge of Stevens Point, and Sandy (Ken) Wierzba of West Allis; grandchildren, Russell (Kim) Falkowski, Ericka and Dustin Skowronski, Amanda Goodman, and Sam (Brittany) Wierzba; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Madison Falkowski, Kinley and Kadence Skowronski, Makayla and Braden Goodman, and Athena, Linkoln, and “JJ” Wierzba; siblings, Beverly Clark of Sturgeon Bay, Lorraine Schrandt of Kenosha, Nancy Peil of Sturgeon Bay, Carol (Maynard) Staats of Sturgeon Bay, Ben (Barb) Teich of the Town of Jacksonport, Tom (Sally) Teich of Sturgeon Bay, and Deb (Jim) McGinnis of Denmark; nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, Shirley (Martin) Onsager, Jackie Teich [who passed shortly after birth], Loney (Joanne) Teich, and Mary (Frank) Larkin; siblings-in-law, Don Schrandt, Donna (Ellsworth) Ehlers, and Walter (Rosemary) Weiterman, Jr.; and other relatives.

     Cliff’s life will be honored with a funeral service held at 12:00 noon on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Pastor Gary Scharrig officiating. He will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery in the Town of Jacksonport, beside his wife, Bettyann.

     Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 28, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.

     Memorials may be given in Cliff’s name for the American Cancer Society.
