Charles Edward Sorenson, age 96, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on January 11, 2026, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.
Charles was born on October 21, 1929, to Martha Henrietta (Knudson) Sorenson and Clarence Howard Sorenson. He graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School with the Class of 1947 and proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
On December 13, 1958, Charles was united in marriage to Marilyn Jean Jackson at the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church, where both were raised and remained lifelong members. They shared 63 years of marriage until Marilyn’s passing.
Charles devoted much of his career to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, serving as a tugboat captain and holding a pilot’s license on lake freighters. Following his retirement, he continued working at Petersen Builders and Bay Shipbuilding. A lifelong woodsman, Charles had a deep love for the outdoors, a passion he passed on to his family—especially his son, Paul, and granddaughter, Sara. He was also a longtime member of the Door County Rod and Gun Club.
Charles will be deeply missed by his family: his children, Dr. Christine (Dr. Nader Sheibani) Sorenson of Madison and Paul Sorenson of Valmy; his granddaughter, Sara Sheibani; his brother, John Sorenson of De Pere; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marilyn Sorenson; his parents, Martha and Clarence Sorenson; his mother-in-law, Winifred Jackson; his sister-in-law, Joanne Sorenson; and other relatives.
Charles’ life will be honored with a funeral service held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2026 at Huehns Funeral Home, 1414 Michigan Street, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235, with Rev. Dr. Matthew R. Knapp, Sr., of Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church, officiating. He will be laid to rest in Bayside Cemetery in the Town of Sevastopol, beside his wife, Marilyn.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Monday from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m.
Memorials may be given in Charles’ name to the Arbor Day Foundation (arborday.org); or to the Sturgeon Bay Moravian Church (323 S. 5th Avenue, Sturgeon Bay, WI 54235).
