Catherine Reichert Obituary

Catherine "Katie" Regina Reichert, 94, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 28, 2024, at Bayview Senior Care in Sturgeon Bay, WI. She passed peacefully in her sleep with family by her side, on what would have been her son Rick's 66th birthday.

Katie was born July 10, 1930 in Sheboygan, WI, the daughter of Nicholas Peter Schnettler and Helen Anna (Burkart) Schnettler. She grew up attending St. Dominic Catholic School and Parish and graduated from Sheboygan North High School with the class of 1949.

After high school, Katie's independence and determination inspired her to move to Washington, D.C. where she worked as a confidential secretary for the United States Government for two years. After returning to Sheboygan, she married Richard "Dick" Reichert on April 11, 1953. They resided in Sheboygan, WI, with a secondary home in Lakewood, WI until 1983.

Katie and Dick, along with her brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Betty Schnettler, founded Poly Vinyl Company in Sheboygan Falls, WI in 1962. While raising eight children, Katie opened and operated Modern Bridal and Formal / Bridal Village from 1970-1978, located in the Memorial Mall in Sheboygan, WI.

After temporarily retiring, Katie & Dick moved to Orange County, CA in 1983 where they soon established their third family business, Reichert Signs, Inc. This real estate sign manufacturing company which they owned for over seven years, employed several of their children.

Katie was a very dedicated volunteer at South Community Outreach in Orange County, CA. Their programs supported abused/abandoned/homeless women by providing food, clothing, counseling and temporary shelter. There she used her business experience, computer skills, and management knowledge to write grants, organize finances, and manage their archives.

She and Dick were blessed with over 53 years of marriage. They enjoyed traveling, snowmobiling, and spending time at their cottage on Maiden Lake in Lakewood, WI. Dick preceded her in death on September 23, 2006.

Katie was very adventurous, loved to travel and had a great appreciation for music. In her spare time, she was an avid reader, knitted and crocheted, loved to play games and make puzzles. She was a devoted Packer fan who regularly sported her favorite #12 jersey while watching the games. Family time was her favorite time.

Katie was extremely dedicated to her Catholic faith. She enjoyed watching the Catholic channel EWTN and regularly prayed the Rosary, Divine Mercy Chaplet, and attended Mass and Communion Services as often as she was able.

After living 35 years in Southern California, she moved to a retirement community in Atlanta, Georgia to be closer to more of her family. In 2022, Katie and her family decided to bring her home to Wisconsin. She moved into Anna's/Bayview Senior Care in Sturgeon Bay.

Katie's love will live on in the hearts of her seven living children and their families. Vicki (Michael) Louis of Egg Harbor, WI, Jeanne (Charles) Irvine of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Nancy (Paul) Kiefer of New London, WI, Lisa (Thomas) McDermott of Hoschton, GA, Linda (Michael) Andersen of Key West, FL, Mary (Jeffrey) Lutz of Punta Gorda, FL, and John Reichert of Auckland, New Zealand; grandchildren, Katherine (Andrew) Johnson, Benjamin (Sabrina) Kiefer, and Carolyn (Christopher) Babekuhl, Nicole McDermott (Kevin Mitchell) and Matthew McDermott, Emma Shield (fiancé, Ryan Shapiro) and Evelyn Shield, Stephen Lutz (fiancé, Grace Naticchia) and Bryan (Gabrielle Ryman) Lutz, and Autumn, Elizabeth, and Jonathan Reichert; great-grandchildren, Theodore and Miles Johnson, Simon and Mason Kiefer, and Sophia and Lily Babekuhl.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Helen Schnettler; husband, Richard "Dick" Reichert; son, Richard "Rick" Reichert (2002); son-in-law, Manfred Bender (2003); siblings, Nicholas (Connie) Schnettler, Robert (Betty) Schnettler, Jerry (Joan) Schnettler, Marion Wagner, Gertrude (William) Rupnick, Dorothy George (Ronald Manser), (Harold George); in-laws, Robert (Alice) Reichert and William Reichert.

Katie's life will be honored with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 17, 2025, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, 2133 N. 22nd Street, Sheboygan, WI 53081 with Fr. Nicholas Baumgardner as celebrant. Visitation for family and friends will be held at the church on Friday, January 17, 2025 beginning at 10:00 a.m.

Katie will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Kohler, beside her husband, Dick and son, Rick.
