Anthony "Bud" Zawojski, Jr. Obituary

Anthony “Bud” Zawojski, Jr., age 89, of Egg Harbor, passed away on Wednesday, May 29, 2024.

Born on April 15, 1935, to Anthony Zawojski, Sr. and Helen (Duso) Zawojski in Rossford, Ohio.

Bud met the love of his life, Judith Reskey, while serving in the United States Army and stationed in Barrington, IL. They married on November 30, 1957, and were blessed with 66 years of marriage. Bud remained in Chicago after his discharge from the military, where he attended the Illinois Institute of Design and earned an associate's degree in graphic design. During the next 16 years, he worked as a graphic artist and then Art Director for various design and advertising agencies. He received numerous awards for his work, including his logo design for the Chicago Board of Trade. The logo was voted one of the Top 50 designs in the U.S. and is still in use today. His work was featured in exhibitions at galleries and the Chicago Public Library.

Bud & Judy and their family moved to Door County in 1973, when they purchased a greenhouse business, Sunnypoint Gardens, Egg Harbor. Judy operated the garden center while Bud commuted to Green Bay continuing his commercial art career as Art Director for several agencies. His work in Door County included a logo design for the Door County Auditorium and advertising for good friends, Ann and Minnow Emerson of Edgewood Orchard Galleries in Fish Creek.

Bud wore many hats during his 51 years in Door County. He and Judy purchased a 50-acre cherry orchard in the Village of Egg Harbor in 1976 which they operated until 1986. Bud and Judy grew Sunnypoint Gardens into a flourishing business over the years until they sold the business in 2011 to their son Tony and his wife Kori. Upon retirement from his design career, Bud then pursued his lifelong love of art and took up pottery, becoming quite proficient at it. He could often be found throwing pots in his “Clay Pen” with his trusted companion Boomer at his side. He never sold his work but preferred instead to gift pieces to family and friends. He was always very modest about himself and his art.

Bud is survived by his wife Judy; children, Linnae (Robert) Phillips, John (Susanna) Zawojski, Dave (Lynn) Zawojski, Tony (Kori) Zawojski, and Max (Louise) Zawojski; grandchildren, Claire, Hope, Alicia, John Anthony, Jr., Joseph, Michael, Chris, Ty, Natalie, Annabelle, and Eleanor; great grandchildren, Kathrine, Xavier, Charlotte, and William; sisters, Lorene Davenport and Roseanne Clavero.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Daniel Zawojski.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The Zawojski family would like to thank Dr. Reitz from Door County Medical Center for Bud’s care over the years and Unity Hospice for the exceptional care of Bud during this time.

A private memorial service is being planned for Bud at a later date.  Expressions of sympathy, memories and photos of Bud may be shared with his family through his tribute page at www.huehnsfuneralhome.com
