Anne M. Bernklau, 86, of Sturgeon Bay, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Aurora BayCare Medical Center in Green Bay, with her family by her side.
Anne was born on April 7, 1937, to the late Robert and Armella (Weiss) Burt in Kenosha. She was a 1955 graduate of Pius XI High School. Anne was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, James O. Bernklau, on October 18, 1957, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church in Wauwatosa. They were blessed with over 61 years of marriage.
Anne was a former parishioner of St. Jude the Apostle and Christ King, both in Wauwatosa, St. Lukes in New Berlin, and a member of St. Joseph Parish in Sturgeon Bay. She was a member of the Christ Child Society and the Door County Hospital Auxiliary.
She enjoyed oil painting, playing cards, swimming, and singing in the choir. Anne was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and cherished her time with all of them.
She will be missed by her six children, Jane (Glen) Herlitz of Sturgeon Bay, Jim (Lily) Bernklau of Oconomowoc, Kate (Bill) Sherrill of Irvington, VA, Tom (Karleen) Bernklau of Sussex, Julie (Guy) Andrysick of Naples, FL, and Tim (Danette) Bernklau of Suamico; 15 grandchildren, Valerie (Jeff) Kretz, Matthew (Amber) Binney, Lane (Eric) Hagen, Breanne (JP) Hayes, Jaisa (Andrew) Riemenschneider, Ashley Bernklau, Cullen Bernklau, Gregory (Carley) Ballering, Logan (Claire) Ballering, Justin (Lindsay) Bernklau , Dylan (Fiancé Bethany) Bernklau, Dakota (Brea) Bernklau, Alyssa (Ed) Bernklau, Brady Hughes, Ben (Kathi) Andrysick, Emily (Paul), Hilary (Andrew) Hughes, Bradley Bernklau, Adam Bernklau; 15 great-grandchildren, Micah, Cooper, Layla, Huck, Moxie, Zia, Gwen, Isaac, Mara, Kallie, Kenzie, Avery, Lucy, Robert, and Jace; and two siblings, Mary Steinweber and Robert (Susan) Burt, both of Fort Meyers, FL. She is further survived by nieces and nephews; other relatives; and friends.
Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband James; parents, Robert and Armella (Weiss) Burt; parents-in-law, Orren and Monette Bernklau; granddaughter, Lauren Binney; and one brother-in-law, Tony Steinweber.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be prayed at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Matthew Rappl as celebrant. Inurnment will take place at Bayside Cemetery following mass. Visitation will be held at the church on Friday, May 31, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
